RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Fr. Robert Sherry came to McHenry in 1989 and started The Church of Holy
Apostles holding services in the former Tamara Royale Inn. The congregation has grown and now
worships at its permanent location at 5211 W. Bull Valley Road; and
WHEREAS, Fr. Robert Sherry faithfully served as Pastor of The Church of Holy Apostles for
23 years until his retirement in the end of June 2012,
WHEREAS, Fr. Robert Sherry has served the City of McHenry, its residents and business
community in his capacity as Chairman of the McHenry Police Commission and also on the Board of
Directors for:
• Family Services and Community Mental Health
• Faith in Action of McHenry County
• PADS - Public Action to Deliver Shelter
and also served as:
• Chaplin for the Knights of Columbus Council 1288
• Chaplin for the McHenry Township Fire Protection District
He has acted in all matters with the welfare of the community uppermost in his mind and;
WHEREAS, Fr. Sherry has given the Invocation for countless community events including our
city's 911 Memorial Commemorations. Special government services and special liturgies have been
held at The Church of Holy Apostles to honor our Police, Fire, and emergency personnel and their
families. He also has blessed almost every boat, motorcycle, and household pet in McHenry County!
WHEREAS, Fr. Sherry can look back with pride on his contributions and accomplishments
while serving the people of McHenry.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of McHenry go on
record as recognizing the many contributions and accomplishments of Robert Sherry and expresses its
appreciation and gratitude to him on behalf of the citizens of McHenry.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED this Resolution be incorporated into the minutes of this
meeting with a copy presented to Fr. Robert Sherry.
