R-99- 010
WHEREAS, the Fifth Grade Class of Riverwood School, McHenry, recently
participated in a class project whereby they created the "City of Riverwood"; and
WHEREAS, in order to fully learn about and understand how a real City
government works, class members held a campaign, circulated and submitted election
petitions, displayed posters and designated each classroom a separate city ward; and
WHEREAS, the first election of the "City of Riverwood" was held April 14,
1999, and the officials elected to office were: Anthony Sorrentino, Mayor; Jessica
Thoma, City Clerk; Matt Beres, Treasurer; Zack Banwart and John Shabosky, Aldermen
Ward 1; Tom Flicek and Amy Fingard, Aldermen Ward 2; Beth Garner and Ken
Pedregosa, Aldermen Ward 3; Matt Ryba and Pete Trageser, Aldermen Ward 4; Miguel
Delgadillo and Beth Colberg, Aldermen Ward 5; and
WHEREAS, the "City of Riverwood" Department Heads were appointed by the
Mayor and approved by the Aldermen; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of McHenry wishes to go on record
commending the 1999 Riverwood School Fifth Grade Class for their efforts to learn
about City government and the civic interest they have displayed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of McHenry go on
record as recognizing this accomplishment and wishes the "City of Riverwood" well.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be incorporated into the
minutes of this meeting and be presented to Mayor Anthony Sorrentino, "City of
Riverwood".
