HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 05/02/1949 - City Council COUNCIL ROOM • MAY 2, 1949 The City Council met in regular semi-monthly meeting with Mayor Freund presiding. Aldermen present: Althoff, Anderson, Blake, Freund, Tonyan, I/0 Vycital. Absent: None. Motion by Althoff, seconded by Vycital, that the minutes of annual meeting and the special meeting held April 25, 1949 be approved as read. Motion carried. Motion by Althoff, seconded by Freund, to approve the proposal of the American Red Cross as requested by Paul Yanda and Roy Kent, to conduct swimming classes for children and the use of the city beaches for that purpose. Motion carried. Motion by Althoff, seconded by Vycital, to refer the application for permit of McHenry Sand and Gravel Company, for erection of Ready-Mix Cement Plant, to the Building Committee, granting the committee power to act on the application. Motion carried. Motion by Anderson, seconded by Freund, that the treasurer's report be approved as read. Motion carried. Motion by Blake, seconded by Tonyan, that the clerk's report be approved as read. Motion carried. Motion by Althoff, seconded by Anderson, that the following bills be paid as approved by the finance committee: Motion carried. Anton H. Motion carried. Motion by Freund, seconded by Anderson, to approve the following salaries for the ensuing fiscal year: Police Chief, $210.00 per month; two police officers, $210.00 per month (Stipulated that Police Chief and officers furnish their own uniforms); Supt. Waterworks, Sewer and Streets, $210.00 per \; ' month; two employees in streets, waterworks and sewer departments, $190.00 1/1 each per month; Caretaker of Disposal Plant, $135.00 per month; City Attorney, $200.00 per year. Motion carried. Mayor Freund made the following appointments of officers and employees for the ensuing fiscal year: Attorney - Vernon J. Knox Collector - Mayme Buss Police - Lester R. Bacon, Chief; John J. McCarthy, Elmer R. Murphy Supt. Waterworks, Sewer and Streets - Jack Smith Caretaker of Disposal Plant - Fred C. Feltz Board of Health - Dr. W. A. Nye; B. J. Brefeld; A. J. Kamholz Motion by Freund, seconded by Tonyan, to approve the appointments of officers and employees as made by Mayor Freund and to approve the ordinance, as read, designating Mayor Freund and Aldermen Blake and Althoff as members of the Board of Local Improvements. Motion carried. Motion by Anderson, seconded by Vycital, to hire J. W. North & Co. to make the annual audit of city books. Motion carried. Motion by Althoff, seconded by Blake, to pass and approve Resolution, as read, designating the McHenry State Bank as depository of funds and moneys of the City of McHenry in custody of James E.
