RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Steven C. Murgatroyd served as City of McHenry Plan Commissioner from
July 6, 1994 until April 30, 1997 and was subsequently elected City of McHenry Ward 4
Alderman and was sworn in effective May 1, 1997; and
WHEREAS, he has diligently, graciously and selflessly served the McHenry community
during both his tenure as Plan Commissioner and Ward 4 Alderman until his resignation as
Alderman effective October 31, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Steve has served the City of McHenry, its residents and business
community in his capacity as Alderman and on numerous committees including, Parks and
Recreation Committee, Public Works Committee, Finance and Personnel Committee, serving as
its Chair from May 1, 1997 until the present time, and has acted in all matters with the welfare of
the City uppermost in his mind; and
WHEREAS, he witnessed and assisted in:
• the creation and development of a Finance Department within the City's Administration to more carefully
oversee all financial matters in the City's day-to-day business;
• the update and revisions to the City's Comprehensive Plan and Land Use Map and the Subdivision Control
and Development Ordinance:
• the establishment of a Planning and Zoning Commission which combined the duties of the Plan
Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, thereby streamlining the process for development and zoning
relief procedures for the ease and benefit of all in the community
• the purchase of the Petersen Farm Homestead Property, comprised of approximately 62 acres, to provide
for the preservation of the historic farm and homestead for all future generations to experience and enjoy;
• the growth of our community from 18. 180 residents to its present population of 27,525;
during his years of service; and
WHEREAS, Steve can look back with pride on his numerous contributions and
accomplishments while serving in his community
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of McHenry
go on record as recognizing the many contributions and accomplishments of Steven C.
Murgatroyd and expresses its appreciation and gratitude to him on behalf of the citizens of
McHenry.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be incorporated into the minutes of
this meeting and that a copy be presented to Steven C. Murgatroyd.
