City Clerk SPECIAL MEETING APRIL 26, 1955 Following adjournment of the annual meeting, newly elected officers took their oaths of office and a special meeting was called by Mayor Freund for the purpose of acting on applications for alcoholic beverage licenses and other new business that might come before the Council. Aldermen presents Antonson, Brown, Buchert, Gausden, Johnson, Rothermel. Absents None. Motion by Antonson, seconded by Gausden, to pass and approve resolution granting the McHenry Chamber of Commerce to sponsor a parade on Marine Day, August 7, 1955. Motion carried. Motion by Rothermel, seconded by Johnson, to grant permit to the American Legion McHenry Post 491 to conduct a carnival June 30th to July 4th, 1955 (inclusive) as per application. Motion carried. Motion by Johnson, seconded by Brown, to approve the application of the following for Class "A" Alcoholic Beverage Licenses: .Carl Behnke . FREUND, MAYOR ANNUAL MEETING APRIL 26, 1955 The City Council met for the annual meeting with Mayor Freund presiding. Aldermen present: Buchert, Johnson, Rothermel, Thennes. Absent: Anderson, Freund. Motion by Johnson, seconded by Buchert, that the minutes of the last 0 regular meeting and the special meeting held April 20, 1955 be approved as read. Motion carried. Motion by Rothermel, seconded by Thennes, that the treasurer's report for the month of April be approved as read. Motion carried. Motion by Buchert, seconded by Johnson, that the collector's report for the month of April be approved as read. Motion carried. Motion by Thennes, seconded by Rothermel, that the clerk's report for the month of April be approved as read. Motion carried. The canvassing committee reported the following results of the election: Ward No. 1: For Alderman - Edward J. Gausden, 50 votes. Write-in votes - James McAndrews, 1; Verne Harrison, 1; Elizabeth Frett, 1. For Police Magistrate - Larry J. Huck, 43 votes. Ward No. 2: ' For Alderman - Elmer F. Antonson, 77 votes; Glenn D. Dixon, 44 votes. Write-in votes - Fred Peterson, 9; George Kane, 2. For Police Magistrate - Larry J. Huck, 93 votes. Write-in votes - Harold Alm, 1. Ward No. 3: For Alderman - Charles D. Brown, 134 votes. Write-in votes - George J. Freund, 2. For Police Magistrate - Larry J. Huck, 126 votes. Write-in votes - John Thennes, 1; Harold Miller, 1. Annual Meeting, April 26, 1955 - Page three The total number of votes for Larry J. Huck for Police Magistrate in the three wards :was 262. Motion by Thennes, seconded by Buchert, to approve the report of the canvassing committee. Motion carried. Motion by Rothermel, seconded by Johnson, that Edward J. Gausden, having received the highest number of votes for the office of alderman in the first ward, be declared elected. Motion carried. Motion by Johnson, seconded by Buchert, that Elmer F. Antonson, having received the highest number of votes for the office of alderman in the second ward, be declared elected. Motion carried. Motion by Rothermel, seconded by Thennes, that Charles D. Brown, having received the highest number of votes for the office of alderman in the third ward, be declared elected. Motion carried. Motion by Buchert, seconded by Rothermel, that Larry J. Huck, having received the highest number of votes for the office of Police Magistrate, be declared elected. Motion carried. Motion by Thennes, seconded by Johnson, to adjourn.
