HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 08/19/1968 - City Council REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 19, 1968 The City Council met in regular semi-monthly meeting with Mayor Doherty presiding. Aldermen present: Bolger, Etten, Hromec, Huck, Jackson, Rogers, Smith, Wegener. Absent: Pitzen. Motion by Rogers, seconded by Wegener, to approve the minutes of regular meeting held August 5th as read. Voting "Aye": Bolger, Etten, Hromec, Huck, Jackson, Rogers, Smith, Wegener. Voting "Nay: None. Absent: Pitzen. Motion carried. Motion by Smith, seconded by Jackson, to grant permission to the Viscount Drum and Bugle Corps to sell car wash tokens in McHenry on August 23 and 24, 1968 as a fund raising project. Vcting "Aye": Bolger, Etten, Hromec, Huck, Jackson, Rogers, Smith, Wegener. Voting "Nay": None. Absent: Pitzen. Motion carried. Motion by Huck, seconded by Bolger, to pass and approve Tax Levy Ordinance in the amount of one hundred sixty eight thousand six hundred thirty seven and 50/100 dollars ($168,637. 50). Voting "Aye": Bolger, Etten, Hromec, Huck, Jackson, Rogers, Smith, Wegener. Voting "Nay": None. Absent: Pitzen. Motion carried. Regular Meeting - August 19, 1968 Page two Motion by Jackson, seconded by Etten, to authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into a lease with William A. Nye and Lorraine Nye, His Wife, for use of described premises for municipal parking purposes at a rental payable $200. 00 per month. Voting "Aye": Bolger, Etten, Huck, Jackson, Rogers, Smith, Wegener. Voting "Nay": Hromec. Absent: Pitzen. Motion carried. Motion by Smith, seconded by Rogers, to purchase street signs for 95 corners from Lyle Signs, Inc. at a cost of $1,492. 21. Voting "Aye": Bolger, Etten, Huck, Jackson, Rogers, Smith, Wegener. Voting "Nay": None. Absent: Pitzen. Motion carried. Motion by Rogers, seconded by Bolger, to adopt resolution commending Frank E. Low for his efforts as Chairman of Marine-Festival Day. Voting "Aye": Bolger, Etten, Huck, Jackson, Rogers, Smith, Wegener. Voting "Nay": None. Absent: Pitzen. Motion carried. Motion by Smith, seconded by Rogers,to purchase rotary mower from George P. Freund at a total sale price of $800.00 as per proposal submitted. Voting "Aye": Bolger, Etten, Huck, Jackson, Rogers, Smith, Wegener. Voting "Nay": None. Absent: Pitzen. Motion carried. DOHERTY, MAYOR , RESOLUTION } WHEREAS, Marine-Festival Day is recognized for I its importance to the growth and development of the City of McHenry, and WHEREAS, the attraction of various events on this day is evidenced by the large number of people visiting the City, and WHEREAS, it is the general opinion that the 1968 event surpassed previous events in the way of entertainment and enjoyment, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of McHenry wishes to recognize the time and effort put forth by Frank E. Low as Chairman of the Marine-Festival for many years. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of McHenry go on record as recognizing, with appreciation, the services rendered by Frank E. Low in guiding Marine-Festival Day to a successful conclusion. Further, that this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting and a copy be presented to Frank E. Low. Alderman Rogers, seconded by Alderman Bolger, moved the adoption of this Resolution and it was passed, with unanimous approval , this 19th day of August, 1968. Approve /f�6/Z Donald P.
