MAY 1, 1961
The City Council met in regular semi-monthly meeting with
Mayor Doherty presiding. Aldermen present: Bolger, Brown, Conway,
Pitzen, Schaefer, Smith. Absent: None.
Motion by Pitzen, seconded by Conway, to approve the minutes
of the annual meeting and special meeting held April 27, 1961. Motion
carried.
Motion by Brown, seconded by Bolger, to approve the treasurer's
report as read. Motion carried.
Motion by Conway, seconded by Schaefer, to approve the clerk's
report as read. Motion carried.
Motion by Brown, seconded by Bolger, to instruct the city clerk
to send letters to petitioners for sanitary sewer construction in the
Westerly portion of Maple Avenue and adjacent area, advising them to
deposit estimated assessments in escrow account in the McHenry State
Bank. Motion carried.
Mayor Doherty made the following apnointments of standing
committees for the ensuing fiscal year:
Finance: Bolger, Pitzen, Smith
Streets, Alleys, Sidewalks: Brown, Bolger, Schaefer
Public Property: Smith, Brown, Schaefer
Recreation and Parks: B olger, Pitzen, Smith
License: Conway, Brown, Schaefer
Public Utilities: Pitzen, Bolger, Smith
Band: Schaefer, Brown, Conway
Purchasing: Conway, Pitzen, Schaefer
Library: George P. Freund, Wm. J. Bolger, Earl R. Walsh,
Mrs� Goodell, Mrs.- Anglese, Mrs. V. Kramer,
Mrs. Robt. Weber, Mrs. A. J. Wirtz, Mrs. Fred
Bienapfl.
Motion by Smith, seconded by Bolger, to approve committee
appointments as made by the mayor. Motion carried.
Mayor Doherty appointed Aldermen Bolger and Schaefer as a
special committee to represent the city in plans for the 1961 Fiesta Day.
Motion by Brown, seconded by Conway, to approve the mayor's
appointments of John E. Looze as City Attorney, Mayme Buss as City Collector,
and Dr. Peter Griesbach, Leo J. Winkel and Carl N. Weber as the Local
Board of Health. Motion carried.
Motion by Pitzen, seconded by Brown, to approve the appointment
of Fred J. Meyer as Superintendent of Public Works for a period of two
years. Motion carried.

Motion by Conway, seconded by Bolger, to establish the
salary of Fred J. Meyer, Supt. of Public Works at $7200 per year,
payable monthly. Motion carried.
Motion by Pitzen, seconded by Brown, to approve installation
of protective screen at the base of ladder attached to the new water
tower. Motion carried.
Motion by Pitzen, seconded by Conway, to authorize the Street
and Alley Committee to proceed with proposed repairs on various streets
at a cost not to exceed $8500.00. Motion carried.
Motion by Bolger, seconded by Conway, to pay the following
bills as approved by the finance committee:

Motion by Schaefer, seconded by Conway, to adopt resolution desig-

V 'V Motion by Smith, seconded by Bolger, to have the mayor appoint a
committee of three to discuss with the Plan Commission the application of
Bruce Klontz for use of property at Park and Elm Streets. Motion carried.
Mayor Doherty appointed Aldermen Pitzen, Smith and Schaefer as the
committee of three in reference to the Bruce Klontz application.
Motion by Brown, seconded by Schaefer, to adjourn. Motion carried.
