HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 04/27/1959 - City Council • SPECIAL MEETING APRIL 27, 1959 Following adjourrent of the Annual Meeting, the City Council convened for a special meeting for the purpose of acting on Alcoholic Beverage License applications and other business that might come before the Council. Mayor Freund presided at the meeting and upon roll call the following aldermen were found present: Bolger, Brown, Conway, Holly, Pitzen, Thennes. Absent: None. Motion by Thennes, seconded by Brown, to approve the following Class "A" Alcoholic Beverage License applications: Hans C. Behnke Eugene P. Nye and H. Walter Ernest Freund & Carolyn Justen Anderson d/b/a "R" Place, Inc. Joseph A. Gilmore Al Phannenstill Winfield W. Hagberg Riverside Hotel - Fox Hole Tap Leona Henschel Joseph H. Simon Don Hoenes Edgar S. & Ingeborg M. Tipton McHenry Country Club Gus Unti Bernard Peschke Robert C. Chrisman Erxeto Pieroni's, Inc. Motion carried. Motion by Pitzen, seconded by Conway, to approve the application of the American Legion Post #491 for Class "F" Alcoholic Beverage License. Motion carried. Motion by Bolger, seconded by Thennes, to approve the following applications for Class "C" Alcoholic Beverage Licenses: Thomas P. Bolger Millstream Drugs, Inc. Nye Drug, Inc. Motion carried. Motion by Brown, seconded by Holly, to hire J. W. North & Co. to make the annual audit of city books. Motion carried. Motion by Pitzen, seconded by Conway, to grant the request of The Country Art Fair pertaining plans for exhibit June 15th through June 21st as outlined in letter submitted by Gertrude F. Gladstone, General Chairman. Motion carried. Motion by Thennes, seconded by Pitzen, to instruct the City Clerk to direct a letter to the McHenry Plan Commission expressing the willingness of the City Council to cooperate in securing necessary funds for engaging the services of a firm of city planning consultants. Mayor Freund appointed Aldermen Pitzen, Holly and Newkirk as the canvassing committee to canvas the votes cast at the City Election held April 21, 1959. The canvassing committee reported the following results: Ward No. 1 - For Alderman: ...... 4 year term William J. Bolger - 27 votes Ward No. 2 - For Alderman 4 year term Harry Conway - 129 votes Glenn D. Dixon - 66 votes Frank Meyer - 1 vote Annual Meeting - April 27, 1959 - Page Three Ward No. 3 - For Alderman 4 year term Charles D. Brown - 81 votes H. Rodenkirk - 1 vote Motion by Thennes, seconded by Holly, that William J. Bolger, having received the highest number of votes for the office of alderman in Ward No. 1, be declared elected. Motion carried. Motion by Pitzen, seconded by Newkirk, that Harry Conway, having received the highest number of votes for the office of alderman in Ward No. 2, be declared elected. Motion carried. Motion by Holly, seconded by Thennes, that Charles D. Brown, having received the highest number of votes for the office of alderman in Ward No. 3, be declared elected. Motion carried.
