Ill Mayor Stanek opened the meeting by announcing that this meeting was being held to discuss possible application for a re- creation grant and construction of a community swimming pool . Present for the meeting were Aldermen Meurer, Pepping,Harker, ►Wieser, Schooley, Adams, Datz, Nolan; Sup't of Public Works Fred Meyer; Jerry Bunting, Lynn Donarski , Kay Halverson, George Cole of the Planning Commission; Gunner Jensen of Jensen Pool Co. of Barrington; Kenneth Fiske of the McHenry County Conservation District; and McHenry Citizens ' Recreation Activity Committee members Bob Mortell , Betty Smith, Peter Merkel , Roger Kruewalt, Janet Conway, Vicki Kopsell , and Donarski and Halverson also of the Planning Commission. Discussion was held on size, location and type of pool which might be considered. Development of Knox Park with skating pond, tobaggon slide, swimming pool , warming house, offices and other recreational activities were presented for debate. Fiske related many problems which have to be met in applying for grants. Jensen presented pool specifications and pictures of pools he had built in other communities. Financing a pool and possible sub- scription from citizens to maintain it were also discussed. The consensus of opinion of those present was that the city should apply for the grant for development of Knox Park but not to include the pool in the grant application since the speci- fications and requirements needed by the Government greatly in- crease the cost of a pool . Ken Fiske of the McHenry County Conservation District and Bob Johnson of the Illinois Department of Conservation indicated they would help the City in submitting the grant application. It was decided that the location of the pool should be determined by the aldermen at a later meeting. Mayor Stanek asked Jerry Bunting, Chairman of the Plan Commission to look over the Knox Park property and make some re- commendations to the Council . Meeting adjourned at 9:45 P.M. 7,t•4Cr
