WHEREAS, the City of McHenry is applying to the State of Illinois
Department of Natural Resources under its Boat Access Development Grant for
the Petersen Park Waterfront Property; and
WHEREAS, the City of McHenry has ownership of McCullom Lake and has
actively sought to purchase and improve additional public property in Petersen
Park; and
WHEREAS, a U.S. EPA Clean Lakes Grant was awarded to the City of
McHenry for a comprehensive lake restoration program in 1995.
WHEREAS, the City of McHenry has completed the lake restoration
program with the assistance of the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission
(NIPC) and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Division; and
WHEREAS, Petersen Park has developed into the communities largest and
most diverse outdoor recreation facility; and
WHEREAS, special event programs in this park attract tens of thousands of
visitors each year from surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, this waterfront development will allow trail users on the
adjoining McHenry County Prairie Trail (Grand Illinois Segment) to access this
lakefront area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FIRMLY RESOLVED that the Mayor and
McHenry City Council go on record as supporting this park development grant
application. This will greatly enhance recreational activities and opportunities for
the Citizens of the McHenry area and surrounding communities.
