RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the McHenry City Council is charged with the responsibility of protecting
and promoting the interests of the citizenry of the McHenry Community, including is health,
safety and general welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City's vast parkland system is a direct result of planning, procurement
and expansion as directed by the City Council in coordination with the City's Parks and
Recreation Committee and Parks and Recreation Department; and
WHEREAS, the City has from time to time been blessed with land donations which have
been developed as open space, adding to the available parklands within the City's boundaries;
and
WHEREAS, Clara Overton in loving memory of her husband Richard Overton has seen
fit to donate the park and Gazebo thereon, located at the intersection of Crescent Avenue and
John Street in the Country Club Subdivision; and
WHEREAS, the McHenry City Council expresses its gratitude and appreciation and
would like to recognize the generosity, benevolence and forethought of Mrs. Overton.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the McHenry City Council goes on
record as naming and plaquing the City's park located at Crescent Avenue and John Street as
Richard Overton Park.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be presented to Mrs. Clara Overton
on behalf of the citizens of McHenry.
