Resolution
WHEREAS, the City of McHenry actively pursues ways to enhance the health and quality of life for its
citizenry, including recreational activities, programs and facilities; and
WHEREAS, members of the McHenry community have consistently expressed their desire for a multi-
purpose recreational center; and
WHEREAS, the McHenry City Council has researched, surveyed and investigated the wishes of the
McHenry community regarding the possibility of the construction of a McHenry Community Recreational
Center for the enjoyment and use of the citizens of McHenry; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has been encouraged to seek additional input from McHenry residents as
to the feasibility of the construction, maintenance and financial support of said recreational facility in the
McHenry community; and
WHEREAS, the City Council at its January 16, 2001 regularly scheduled Council Meeting directed
Staff to prepare the appropriate documents to present to the McHenry County Clerk for inclusion as a
referendum question on the April 3, 2001 Consolidated Election Ballot; and
WHEREAS, the City of McHenry requests the McHenry County Clerk include the following question
on the April 3, 2001 Consolidated Election Ballot:
"Should the City of McHenry construct and operate a community recreation center —which would
include a gymnasium, fitness center, walking/jogging track, activity rooms, racquetball courts,
programs for senior citizens, and possibly an indoor lap pool — to address the recreational
programming needs of the residents of the City of McHenry?"
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and McHenry City Council that the City of
McHenry goes on record to ascertain the wishes of the McHenry community regarding the construction and
operation of a community recreation center.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be filed with the McHenry County Clerk
on or before January 29, 2001.
