AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING AN OFFICIAL COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AND
OFFICIAL MAP OF THE CITY OF MCHENRY, MCHENRY COUNTY, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the City of McHenry ("City") is authorized under the Illinois Municipal
Code, 65 ILCS 5%11-12-4 et seq., to prepare and adopt an official comprehensive plan and
official map for the present and future development of the City; and
WHEREAS, the City created a steering committee made up of professional staff,
community leaders, municipal advisory board members, and elected representatives for the
purpose of developing and recommending a general and long range plan to guide the type,
intensity, rate and quality of development of the community; and
WHEREAS, throughout the process of developing this plan, input from the entire
community was sought and received, and the plan's goals and recommendations are
responsive and reflective of the community's overall desires for the future of McHenry.
WHEREAS, the comprehensive plan and official map were submitted for review by
the City's Planning Commission, and the required public hearing was held before the
corporate authorities of the City pursuant to proper notice.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MCHENRY, MCHENRY COUNTY, ILLINOIS AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The "City of McHenry Comprehensive Plan and Development Policies",
dated August 1999, is hereby adopted and shall be the official comprehensive plan and
official map of the City of McHenry. A complete and accurate copy of said plan and map is
attached to this ordinance and incorporated herein by reference, and shall officially be
known as, and may be cited and referenced to as the "Comprehensive Plan of the City of
McHenry".

SECTION 2: The City Clerk is hereby directed to cause a certified copy of this
ordinance, giving notice of the adoption of an official comprehensive plan and official map,
to be recorded in the Office of the Recorder of Deeds of McHenry County, Illinois.
SECTION 3: The previously adopted comprehensive plan and official map are
hereby repealed, and shall be replaced in their entirety by the comprehensive plan and
official map adopted herein.
SECTION 4: Chapter 17, Section 17-3 Comprehensive Plan, and Chapter 17,
Section 17-3.1 Official Map and Standards, of the City of McHenry Municipal Code shall be
amended by replacing them in their entirety with the following:
17-3. Comprehensive Plan
The City has adopted an official comprehensive plan and official map for the present
and future development of the City. This plan and the maps contained therein are
applicable to land situated within the corporate limits, and contiguous territory not
more than one and one-half miles beyond the corporate limits and not included in
another municipality.
To implement this plan, the City has adopted various codes and ordinances,
including the Zoning Ordinance and the Subdivision Control Ordinance, which
establish reasonable standards of design for subdivisions and requirements
governing the location and construction of public facilities and improvements.
SECTION 5: The official comprehensive plan and officW map shall be placed on file
with the City Clerk for public review and inspection during normal business hours. Copies
of said plan and map shall be made available for purchase for a reasonable cost, which
shall be adequate to reimburse the City for the costs of duplication.
SECTION 6: This Ordinance shall be published in pamphlet form by and under the
authority of the corporate authorities of the City of McHenry, McHenry County, Illinois.

SECTION 7: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage, approval, and publication in pamphlet form as provided by law.
