WHEREAS, McHenry County Veterans of the Vietnam Conflict have established
the McHenry County Chapter of VietNow to support, encourage and affirm fellow
veterans of the war; and
WHEREAS, the McHenry County Chapter of VietNow has secured the Vietnam
Veteran's Traveling Wall for display during McHenry Fiesta Days at Petersen Park in
McHenry, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, the City of McHenry annually celebrates its rich heritage by hosting
Fiesta Days Celebrations in mid -July, this year commencing on Friday, July 14, 2000 and
concluding on Sunday, July 23, 2000; and
WHEREAS, the McHenry County Chapter of VietNow has arranged for a vigil at
the Traveling Wall to begin at noon on Friday, July 141h at the commencement of Fiesta
Days to continue through 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 16th; and
WHEREAS, the formal Opening Ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday,
July 141h, and the Closing Ceremony will be held on Sunday July 10h at 2:00 p.m. at
Petersen Park, at which time Vietnam Veterans listed on The Vietnam Veteran's
Traveling Wall will be honored with a 21-gun salute; and
WHEREAS, the City of McHenry recognizes the efforts, service, and
commitment shown by all Veterans of the Vietnam War conflict and is appreciative to the
McHenry County Chapter of VietNow for bringing The Vietnam Veteran's Traveling
Wall to the City of McHenry Annual Fiesta Day festivities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of McHenry go on
record as recognizing the accomplishments, perseverance, courage and anguish of the
Veterans of the Vietnam Conflict.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be incorporated into the
minutes of this meeting and be presented to the McHenry County Chapter of VietNow at
the Opening Ceremony of the presentation of The Vie nam Veteran' ling Wall at
Petersen Park on Friday, July 14, 2000 at%8gp.m.Z x
