RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the McHenry City Council makes every effort to support the vision, mission and goals of
the City of McHenry Human Relations Commission; and
WHEREAS, the City of McHenry Human Relations Commission acknowledges inherent difficulties
and struggles caused by racism and discrimination in the City of McHenry, McHenry County, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Governor George H. Ryan has established a Governor's Commission on Discrimination
and Hate Crimes in the State of Illinois and has scheduled a series of Town Meetings 2000 in the following
communities to address this state-wide problem:
- Rockford, Illinois
- Springfield, Illinois
- East St. Louis, Illinois
- Peoria, Illinois
- McHenry County, Illinois
- Chicago, Illinois
February 18, 2000
March 7, 2000
April 11, 2000
May 9, 2000
June 6, 2000
July 11, 2000; and
WHEREAS, the topics discussed at the Town Meeting 2000 will assist in educating the citizens of the
McHenry County Community with regard to diversity training, community outreach, legislative concerns,
conflict resolution and respecting diverse religious beliefs; and
WHEREAS, the McHenry Conference of Human Relations Organizations is jointly sponsoring the
Town Meeting 2000 in McHenry County along with the Governor's Commission on Discrimination and Hate
Crimes; and
WHEREAS, the Town Meeting 2000 will allow area residents to address problems and concerns
regarding intolerance and bigotry, and will allow church leaders, educators, elected officials and others to speak
out about programs already in place to positively address these issues.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the McHenry City Council goes on record as
supporting and endorsing the Town Meeting 2000 in McHenry County on June 6, 2000 and urges all citizens to
attend this important meeting.
