RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, William J. "Fitz" Fitzgerald was hired as Patrolman for the City of McHenry
Police Department on September 6, 1974; and
WHEREAS, he has made every effort to provide the citizens of McHenry quality Police
Protection and has performed his duties with diligence, loyalty and professionalism; and
WHEREAS, on June 4, 1979, he calmly and professionally responded to an active burglar
alarm, apprehended an intruder, and arrested same with precision and safety to all concerned; and
WHEREAS, in August 1990, he unselfishly volunteered to drive to Baraboo, Wisconsin to
secure the City of McHenry Treasurer's signature on Bond Documents; and
WHEREAS, he received a Letter of Commendation from the McHenry City Council and
Chief Patrick J. Joyce for exhibiting great restraint in confronting an armed assailant in March of
1991; and
WHEREAS, he has served the City of McHenry in his capacity as Police Officer with
courage and foresight, and has acted in all matters with the welfare of the City uppermost in his mind
and has tendered his resignation effective March 3, 2000; and
WHEREAS, he can look back with pride on his contributions and accomplishments while
serving the City of McHenry Police Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of McHenry go
on record as recognizing the twenty-five years of contributions and accomplishments of William J.
"Fitz" Fitzgerald and expresses its appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the citizens of McHenry.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be incorporated into the minutes of this
meeting and that a copy be presented to William J. "Fitz" Fitzgerald.
