An Ordinance Amending Chapter 18, Police, of the Municipal Code,
City of McHenry, Illinois, to Provide for Deputy Chiefs
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL ofthe City of McHenry, McHenry
County, Illinois, as follows:
SECTION 1: That Section 18-1, Creation, compostion of department, of the City of McHenry
Municipal Coda shall be amended to delete "Two (2) Lieutenants" and add "Two (2) Deputy Chiefs"
to said subsection.
SECTION 2: That Chapter 18 of the City of McHenry Municipal Code shall be amended to
add Section 18-11, which shall read as follows:
Section 18-11. Deputy Chief.
The position of Deputy Chief is hereby established for the Police Department of the City. The
Deputy Chief, who shall be appointed by the Chief of Police, shall be an exempt rank
immediately below that of the Chief of Police. Up to two persons may be appointed to the
position of Deputy Chief. The appointment shall be from the rank of sworn, full-time officers
of the City, but must have at least five years of full-time service as a police officer in the
Police Department. The Deputy Chief shall serve at the discretion of the Chief of Police and, if
removed from the position, shall revert to the rank held immediately prior to appointment to
the Deputy Chief position.
SECTION 3: If any section, paragraph, subsection, clause, sentence or provision of this
Ordinance shall be adjudged by any court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, such judgement
shall not affect, impair, invalidate or nullify the remainder thereof, which remainder shall remain and
continue in full force and effect.
SECTION 4: All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to
the extent of such conflict.
SECTION 5: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its passage, approval and
publication in pamphlet form (which publication is hereby authorized) as provided by law.
