ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW WARD BOUNDARIES
Based upon the City's 1990 Census, it is necessary to create a fifth
ward in the City prior to the next election. In establishing new ward
boundaries, the statutes require that the population in each ward be as
nearly even as possible, that the geographic area be as compact as
possible, and that the splitting of precincts be minimized. Formation of
a new fifth ward and the creation of new boundaries for all five wards
would result in the election of two additional Aldermen for a total of
ten.
Motion by Smith, seconded by Patterson, to recess the meeting to the
Aldermen's Conference Room to work on development of new ward boundary
maps.
Voting Aye: Bolger, Donahue, Lieder, Locke,
Smith, Adams, Patterson, Serritella.
Voting Nay: None.
Absent: None.
Motion carried.
From 7:45 P.M. to 10:30 P.M. discussion was held on various suggested
layouts for boundary maps. Six proposed maps were developed. The City
Clerk was authorized to make copies of each map and present them to each
Alderman for review, with action to be taken at a future meeting.
The Meeting reconvened in the Council Room at 10:32 P.M.
