Regular Meeting Minutes
March 5, 2024
Call to Order
The Landmark Commission of the City of McHenry, Illinois, met at McHenry City Hall, 333 S Green
St, on Tuesday, January 6, 2024, at 4:00 p.m.
Roll Call
Deputy Clerk Johnson called the roll. Roll call: Members present: Zelina Paluch, Marian Olson,
Michele Smith, Carol Buss, Celeste Heidemann, Thomas Hillier. Absent: Kathryn Frey, Marta
Martin, Beth Staley
Public Comments
No members of the public were present to offer comments.
Approve Previous Meeting Minutes
A motion as made by Carol Buss and seconded by Marian Olson to approve the minutes of the
previous meeting. Approved by unanimous vote.
Mission Statement
Clerk Johnson handed out the wording from the City’s Code of Ordinances that explained what
the rules and duties of the Landmark Commission. Members will review the document and will
return to the next meeting to discuss if any changes to the wording are appropriate.
Farm
Shawn Strach, an Alderman for the City of McHenry, was present and discussed what current
plans are for the Mass Barn property and how some activities are being planned for the Petersen
Farm.
Finance Report
Clerk Johnson explained that the Landmark Commission has $5,500 this year that they are able
to spend as needed. So far the Commission has spent $3,093.95, which mostly was for producing
the videos. That leaves $2,406.05 through the end of the fiscal year. It was assumed that the
remaining money would be used for plaques if needed.
Media – Video Update – DVD
Commission members discussed how good the videos turned out, and that they can be seen
online. It was discussed if those videos could or should be turned into DVDs for the public.

Historic Plaques – Letters
It was discussed that Landmark members did a survey to find out which plaqued properties were
missing their plaques, and that an attempt was made to contact those property owners to see if
they wanted new plaques. Members were usure the status of this issue.
Calendar of Events for 2024
Possible events for 2024 included the school field trips and nursing home visits. No decisions
were made on the topic.
Display Case
Members discussed if the display cases around town were going to be refurbished. Clerk Johnson
explained that the Chamber of Commerce had plans to replace one of those with a digital kiosk,
and that the City may also replace one with a digital kiosk at a different downtown area. One idea
was to have the trades department at the high school refurbish any others that may need
attention.
School Field Trip
Kathryn Frey is in charge of planning the school field trip, but she was absent from the meeting.
Clerk Johnson will contact her to see if that is still being planned.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:55 p.m.
