Sterling Morton proposed to the Ne6raska Board of Agricu(ture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees, and � WHEREAS, this ho[iday, called Ar6or Day, was first observed with the p[anting of more than a miltion trees in Ne6ras�ca, and WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the wor[d, and WHEREAS, trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, c[ean the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wild[ife, and WHEREAS, trees are a renewa6le resource giving us paper, wood for our homes, fue[ for our �res and countiess other wood products, and WHEREAS, trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic vitaiity of business areas, and 6eautify our community, and WHEREAS, trees are a source of joy and spiritual renewat, and WHEREAS, the City of McHenry has been recognized as a Tree City [1SA by The National Arbor Day Foundation and desires to continue its tree-planting ways, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED 6y the Mayor and Aldermen that Apri[ 29, 2005 �s known as Arbor Day in the City of McHenry. BE IT Fl(RTHER RESOLVES, that a copy of this resolution is incorporated into the minutes of these proceedings, and that a[[ citizens are encouraged to ptant trees to gladden the hearts and promote the we[I 6eing of present and future generat[ons.
