Building Safety Week
May 8 - 14, 2005
Whereas, building safety affects many aspects of American life; and
Whereas, because of building safety code enfarcement,we enjoy the comfort of structures that are safe and
sound; and,
Whereas, building safety and fire prevention officials work with citizens to address building safety and fire
prevention concerns everyday; and,
Whereas, the dedicated members of the International Code Council, including building safety and fire
prevention officials, architects, engineers, and others in the construction industry, develop and enforce the codes
that safeguard Americans in the buildings where we live, work, play and learn; and,
Whereas, building safety codes provide safeguards to protect the public from natural disasters that can occur all
across the country, such as snowstorms, hurricanes, tornadoes, wild land fires, and earthquakes; and,
Whereas, Building Safety Week is an opportunity to educate the public. It is a perfect time to increase public
awareness of the role the building safety and fire prevention officials, local and state building departments, and
federal agencies, help plan in the general health, safety and general welfare of the public; and,
Whereas, this year's theme, "Making Homes, Schools and Workplaces Safer Together" encourages all
Americans to raise our awareness of building safety, and to take appropriate steps to ensure that the places
where we live, work, play and learn are safe.
Now therefore, we do hereby resolved May 8 through May14, 2005, shall be known as
Building Safety Week
We urge all citizens to: participate in`BUILDING SAFETY WEEK" activities,to help promote building safety,
to create awareness of the importance of construction and to spotlight the role of the dedicated code official in
the administration of those duties.
