WHEREAS, CHARACT'ER COUNTS! was established in 1992 as a means of instilling
character, ethics and values in the youth of our country; and
WHEREAS, this progam is responsible for implementing a public awareness campaign to
stimulate individual and organizational involvement in character development, heightened by a Joint
Resolution of Congress which declares the third week in October each year as "National
CHARACTER COUNTSi Week"; and
WHEREAS, CHARACTER COiJNTS! is a National Partnership of Organizations including
the local CHARACTER COUNTS! Coalition comprised of representatives from the community who
espouse the six core ethical values of the Program; and
WHEREAS, it is the goal of the CHARACTER COUNTS! Coalition to instill the Six Pillars of
Cha.racter into the youth of our community, to teach by example the positive attributes of
Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.
WHEREAS, we, the McHenry City Council, wish to go on record commending the
CHARACTER COUNTS! Program and support the implementation of the CHARACTER COUNTS!
Coalition.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL ijED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of
McHenry go on record recognizing the CHARACTER COiJNTS! Program and encouraging all people
in the community to foster Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship
in our youth.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLYED, that this resolution be incorporated into the minutes of this
meeting and be presented to the CHARACTER COUNTS! Coalition in support of their efforts in our
community.
