HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 2/6/2024 - Landmark CommissionLandmark Commission Meeting Minutes February 6, 2024 Page 1 McHenry Landmark Commission Regular Meeting Minutes February 6, 2024 Call to Order The Landmark Commission of the City of McHenry, Illinois, met at McHenry City Hall, 333 S Green St, on Tuesday, January 6, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. Roll Call Deputy Clerk Johnson called the roll. Roll call: Members present: Zelina Paluch, Kathryn Frey, Marian Olson, Marta Martin, Michele Smith, Carol Bus. Absent: Celeste Heidemann, Thomas Hillier, Beth Staley Public Comments No members of the public were present to offer comments. Approve Previous Meeting Minutes With Chairwoman Staley absent, it was decided that the previous meeting minutes would be approved at the March meeting. Mission Statement Clerk Johnson stated that he wasn’t sure what was to be discussed about the mission statement. He will send out the wording from the City ordinances regarding the powers and authorities of the Landmark Commission. Farm There was no discussion regarding the farm. Finance Report Clerk Johnson explained that the Landmark Commission has $5,500 this year that they are able to spend as needed. So far the Commission has spent $3,093.95, which mostly was for producing the videos. That leaves $2,406.05 through the end of the fiscal year. It was assumed that the remaining money would be used for plaques if needed. Media – Video Update – DVD Commission members discussed how good the videos turned out, and that they can be seen online. It was discussed if those videos could or should be turned into DVDs for the public. Historic Plaques – Letters Landmark Commission Meeting Minutes February 6, 2024 Page 2 It was discussed that Landmark members did a survey to find out which plaqued properties were missing their plaques, and that an attempt was made to contact those property owners to see if they wanted new plaques. Members were usure the status of this issue. Committees Reports It was decided to table this issue until the March meeting. Calendar of Events for 2024 Possible events for 2024 included the school field trips and nursing home visits. No decisions were made on the topic. Display Case Clerk Johnson explained that there is a display case in the lobby at City Hall. The Landmark Commission has been authorized to use that to display whatever historical information or displays they want. It is believed that Beth Staley has been updating that most recently. School Field Trip As discussed earlier, Kathryn Frey has some dates in mind for the school field trip for later in the spring. She will wait until the March meeting for a full discussion to set up these times and the for organizing that event. Trivia Contest Clerk Johnson said he was unsure what the trivia contest was for. One thought was for it to be used in conjunction with nursing home visits. It was also discussed if a history trivia night may be something that could be done as a fundraiser much like other organizations do for their trivia nights. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 4:25 p.m.
