HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 23-15 - 11/06/2023 - Small Business Saturday Resolution 23-15 A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING NOVEMBER 25, 2023 AS SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY IN THE CITY OF MCHENRY, MCHENRY COUNTY, ILLINOIS WHEREAS, America’s progress has been driven by pioneers who think big, take risks and work hard; and WHEREAS, Small Business Saturday is a registered trademark of American Express; and WHEREAS, Small Business Saturday falls the Saturday following Thanksgiving; and WHEREAS, Small Business Saturday encourages people to patronize brick and mortar stores, which are small and local; and WHEREAS, from the storefront shops that anchor Main Street to the high-tech startups that keep America on the cutting edge, small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the cornerstones of our nation’s promise; and WHEREAS, small business owners and Main Street businesses have energy and a passion for what they do; and WHEREAS, when we support small business, jobs are created and local communities preserve their unique culture; and WHEREAS, according to the 2022 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey done by American Express reported U.S. consumer spending reached $17.9 billion; and WHEREAS, because this country’s approximately 33,185,550 million small businesses, account for 99.9% of all U.S. Businesses, employed 61.7 million Americans totaling 46.4% of private sector employees and between 1995-2021 and small business created 17.3 million net new jobs, accounting for 62.7% of net jobs created since 1995, we cannot resolve ourselves to create jobs and spur economic growth in America without discussing ways to support our entrepreneurs; and WHEREAS, the City of McHenry supports and joins in this national effort to help America’s small businesses do what they do best – grow their business, create jobs, and ensure that our communities remain as vibrant tomorrow as they are today. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED NOVEMBER 25, 2023 SHALL BE DESIGNATED SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY IN THE CITY OF MCHENRY, ILLINOIS. ADOPTED this the 6th day of November 2023. Wayne S.
