PARK COMMITTEE MEETING
Tuesday, January 12, 1988

MEMBERS PRESENT: Aldermen Patterson, Lieder and Nolan.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Alderman McClatchey.
OTHERS PRESENT: Park Director Merkel .
PURPOSE OF MEETING: Discuss Park and Recreation Items.
-FIRST MATTER DISCUSSED: Pool/Concession Reports
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Director Merkel presented and discussed swim-
ming pool and concession reports for this past summer's program period. Re-
ports attached. Recommendation by Alderman Nolan that women' s showers be
repaired/renovated in 1988.
-SECOND MATTER DISCUSSED: Petersen Park Recommendations
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Discussion on establishing a fee schedule for
beach admissions. Discussed purchase of paddle boats and rowboats for ren-
tals at beach. Also possibility of sailing lessons and sailboat rentals.
Recommendation to set admission fee schedule as .attached for 1988. Boat
purchase to be presented in Fiscal Year 1988/89 Budget for approval .
-THIRD MATTER DISCUSSED: Improvements for Lakeland Park Community Center
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Installation of carpet and purchase of new
tables for city recreation programs and rental programs. Recommend purchase
and installation of carpet with padding from City Wide Carpet for $1 ,254.
Tabulation of bids attached. Tables to be allocated in Fiscal Year 1988/89
Budget.
-FOURTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Review Developer ponation Ordinance Survey
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Director Merkel presented a packet of infor-
mation on otl�er communities with a Developer ponation Ordinance. The City
of McHenry ordinance was adopted in 1979 and has not been updated or re-
viewed since. Forward information to Building and Zoning Committee to review
ordinance and update as deemed necessary.
-FIFTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Purchase of Electronic Swimming Pool Chemical
Monitor
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Stranco Model 720. Price to include pur-
chase, installation, training, and one year warranty on parts and labor.
Recommend to purchase unit from Halogen Supply Co. , Inc. , Chicago, for
$3,410. Two quotations were submitted.

-SIXTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Water Fountains For Parks
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Purchase and installation of four water foun-
tains in pa.rks (2-Petersen Park, 1-Fox Ridge Park, 1 Walsh Park) . Installed
by City Water Department. Estimated cost �4,800 with 12-14 weeks for deliv-
ery. Recorrmended to place order and include in Fiscal Year 1988/89 Budget.
-SEVENTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Park Director' s Attendance At Indiana
University Seminar
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION; Committee recommended to approve attendance
for this program.
EIGHTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Capital Expenditures Over $500
DISCUSSION OR RECOMMENDATION: Director Merkel presented the Capital Ex-
penditures planned for Fiscal Year 1988/89. This information was for com-
mittee review and their input ( list attached) . No recommendation made at
this time.
