' PARK COMMITTEE MEETING
Tuesday, May 3, 1988
7:30 p.m.
Lakeland Park Community Center
MEMBERS PRESENT: Aldermen Patterson, McClatchey and Lieder.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Alderman Nolan.
OTHERS PRESENT: Alderman Serritella, Parks & Recreation Director Merkel ,
Fred Batt, Supt. of Public Works, Karen Gaither (non-resident), Rich West
(resident), Bill Buhrman (resident), Laura Rolke (non-resident), Eleanor
Swanson (non-resident), Norman Swanson (non-resident).
PURPOSE OF MEETING: Discuss Park and Recreation Related Items.
-FIRST MATTER DISCUSSED: Discussion of Rental Rates and Boat Rental
Agreement Rules and Regulations.
DECISION OR RECOMMENOATION: Discussion was held on the proposed boat
rental program. A brief outline of the boat rental program was presented by
the Parks and Recreation Director. The committee listened to concerns of
area residents and non-residents.
There was a long discussion on how the program would be implemented,
staffed, supervised, and other safety related items. Some additional rules
will be incorporated into the boat rental policy, with the suggestions from
members in attendance.
Recommended to purchase three rowboats, four pedal boats, one 9.9 H.P.
outboard motor for lifeguard boat and miscellaneous equipment.
-SECOND MATTER DISCUSSED: Lakeland Park Boat Launch
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Discussion was centered on the existing
Lakeland Park Boat Launch and the potential disposition of the property.
There was also discussion on the lack of parking at the Boat Launch site.
The committee recommended to provide a temporary boat launch area at
West Beach Park. A gravel foot path to the waterftont is all that is
necessary. Trailer launching will not be allowed. Trailer parking will not
be allowed at the Lakeland Park Boat Launch or West Beach Park.
