Monday, October 3, 1988
7:45 p.m.
Conference Room
MEMBERS PRESENT: Aldermen Patterson and Nolan.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Alderman McClatchey and Lieder.
OTHERS PRESENT: Parks and Recreation Director Merkel .
PURPOSE OF MEETING: Park and Recreation Related Items.
-FIRST MATTER DISCUSSED: Discuss Petersen Park Additional Acreage/Cunat
Annexation.
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Committee recommendation to support proposal
"C" with largest donation of land to expand athletic area for future needs.
Also recommend water and/or sewer utilities be extended to present
maintenance building and beachfront facility.
-SECOND MATTER DISCUSSED: Report on Tree/Shrub Planting Replacement
Schedule for 1988-1989 and Tree/Schrub toss Report due to Summer Drought.
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Prepare plant material list for bid this winter
for spring planting. Future tree planting to be contracted out to nurseries
or landscape contractors. Attached is list of trees and shrubs lost this
past summer due to drought conditions. Cost of $2,332.00 represents only
current replacement cost and does not include labor costs to plant all trees
and shrubs.
-THIRD MATTER DISCUSSED: Update on Fox Ridge Park Development.
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Playground equipment for this site has been
delivered. Should be installed this fall/winter. Concrete work for
sidewalks and curbing to be bid this winter, spring installation. Finished
landscaping to also be bid this winter with anticipated spring completion.
-FOURTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Landscape Plans for Whispering Oaks Park and Fox
Ridge Park.
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Recommend to approve landscape plan be
developed for revisions at Whispering Oaks Park at fixed fee of $300.00 as
proposed. ��faximum $3,000.00 budget set for this project to be paid fram
Park and Recreation Account Landscaping/Tree Planting.
-FIFTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Discussed Installation of Mirrors on Section of
North Wall of Lakeland Park Community Center for use by Dance and Fitness
Classes.
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Waiting for proposals on installation costs to
be presented for approval .

-SIXTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Purchase of 12 repl.acement tables for Lakeland
Park Community Center.
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Recommend to purchase 12 tables to replace
older damaged tables for $78.00 per table as quoted by Murphy & Jones, Inc.
-SEVENTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Rough Draft of Winding Creek Unit #5 Subdivision
- 5 Acre Park Location.
DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Recommend to seek additional open space
frontage on main collector street that connects with future development to
the north. Committee members were concerned with limited public access to
park for the neighborhood and all residents, and line of site police
visibility. Both aldermen present were unhappy with the siting
configuration for the donated land in a boxed area almost entirely bordered
by residential backyards.
