HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 5/19/1986 - Public Property Committee PUBLIC PROPERTY COMMITTEE MEETING May 19, 1986 - 7:00 P.M. at City Hall RE: Proposed Public Safety Building The meeting was called to order promptly at 7:00 P.M. by Commi.ttee Chairman Bolger. Committee members Serritella and Smith were in attendance although Alderman Serritella had to leave early to attend a previously scheduled Committee Meeting. She pledged her support for the concept of a public safety building. Others in attendance: Mayor Busse and Ken Schaefer, architect for the McHenry Fire Protection District. Ken was there to answer questions and to offer suggestions before proceeding with the plans for the proposed new building. To recap just a bit, the proposal is for an addition to the present Fire Department building which would include quarters for the McHenry Police Department. This would eliminate the need to put an addition on the City Hall , but would need some remodeling as we moved departments around in the building. Alderman Smith expressed some concern on cost and agreed that we should ask the architect to cut back somewhat on the size and possibly leave the lower level (basement) unfinished. This idea was also discussed earlier at a Prelim- inary teeting with the Fire District people, which Mayor Busse and I attended. We had asked for a 20 year lease agreement. Jim Althoff, President of the Fire District Trustees, suggested a 10 year lease with an option to renew the lease at 60% of the cost of the initial lease. The Fire District wants to move on this project this summer, so as usual , time is of the essence. As soon as we have the architects preliminary drawings, I will see that each Alderman is provided with a set of the drawings. As this is a project that I believe should involve full Council involvement, I am going to suggest that all future Committee meetings be held immediately before regular Council Meetings, so that it will be more convenient for all of you to attend. Mayor Busse and I will do as much preliminary work as possible, so as to have all the facts available for council members. Respectfully submitted, '.t,,LCi; , i`-'",l1 William J.
