HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 10/20/1987 - Parks and Recreation Committee • * * * MINUTES REPORT * * * PARK COMMITTEE MEETING Tuesday, October 20, 1987 8:00 p.m. Conference Room MEMBERS PRESENT: Aldermen Patterson, McClatchey and Nolan. MEMBERS ABSENT: Alderman Lieder. OTHERS PRESENT: Park Director Merkel , I�ayor Busse and Pattie Lunkenheimer, Administrative Assistant. -FIRST MATTER DISCUSSED: Fox Ridge Park Improvements DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: a. Burger King playground equipment to be installed early this winter. b. 3 to 4 acres of 30 acre plot, presently only ice rink on site. c. Prepare site and create 60' radius sand circle in which playground wculd be installed in spring. d. Plan calls for 20 x 24 open shelter adjacent to play area and ice rink in the future. e. Possible water fountain in the future (water already stubbed) . f. Possible basketball court. g. Contact Carey Electric to install 4 corner lights for ice rink area. h. Request by Randy Patterson for free form design. i . Seed or hydroseed in the spring. j. Approximate cost for Fox Ridge Park renovations will be �2,000 for installation of the play equipment donated by Burger King. -SECOND MATTER DISCUSSED: Beautification Committee Request DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Liz Nolan and Maxine Moy requested �200 or more for flowers for various public locations, because they have no more volunteers and no time for fund raisers. They do have time for the planting. -THIRD MATTER DISCUSSED: Boys Youth Baseball DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: a. Renovate Petersen Park Field #2 to 75' base paths. b. Move older division (age 15-16) to McCracken Field (already ap- proved by East Campus High School ) . c. Out of town groups should help out with the labor in the renova- tions of the fields. -FOURTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Boy Scout Troop 459 DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: Arrangements have been made with School Dis- trict 15 to allow Boy Scout Troop 459 to use Parkland Jr. High School as their meeting place. Park Committee Meeting page 2 Tuesday, October. 21 , 1987 � -FIFTH MATTER DISCUSSED: McHenry Area Jaycees Proposed Projects DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: a. Bike routes within the community marking different areas to go from one park to another. b. Scoreboards at Petersen Park and/or Knox Park lighted fields to possibly have sponsorship panels. c. DLLrector Merkel will meet with the Jaycees to further look into tl,ese projects. � -SIXTH MATTER DISCUSSED: McHenry County Tumbleweeds Request to have the City to Co-Sponsor Two Invitational Meets That They Will Host at the Local Schools DECISION OR RECOMMENDATION: The Park Committee recommended that the City of McHenry should not co-sponsor these invitational meets. -SEVENTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Needs Assessment Survey Report & Recommendations DECISION OR RECOMP+IENDATION: a. Look into revising summer program registration. b. Look into raising or revising fees. c. Residents should have priority on all programs. d. Director Merkel presented Section 3 on future program staff and funding. EIGHTH MATTER DISCUSSED: Boat Launch DISCUSSION OR RECOMMENDATION: a. Have Ken Fiske proceed with the next step which is engineering and estimates.
