Board of Police Commissioners
August 2, 2023
Police Chairman Sue Meyer called the meeting to order at 2:00 pm in the Police Administration
Conference Room with the following Commissioners present John Jones and Police Commission Stephen
Doherty. Also present was Chief John Birk; Deputy Chief Tom Walsh and Administrative Assistant Deb
Shuett.
Public Comment
None.
1. Motion to Approve May 3. 2023 Meeting Report
Motion by Police Chairman Sue Meyer to approve meeting minutes. Police Commission John
Jones and second by Police Chairman Stephen Doherty to approve the minutes from the May 3,
2023, meeting. Police Commission meeting as presented. All ayes, motion carried.
2. Unfinished Business
Personnel Update – Officer Cole Templin tendered his resignation.
Trevor Pederson and Matthew Meyers are currently at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy
in DuPage and are currently scheduled to graduate on August 18th.
Officer Lopez is currently in Step 3 of the Field Training Program. Doing well.
3. New Business
With the Retirement of Officer Popp and the Resignation of Officer Templin, have 2 openings.
Will start the background process on Steven Barjaktarevic and Justin McCauley. They will attend
the Southwest Illinois Police Academy in Belleville on August 30th. The power test scheduled for
August 8th. Swearing in will be August 16th at 8:30 am.
4. Communications

Adjournment
Motion by Police Chairman Sue Meyer to adjourn meeting, Police Commission John Jones and
second by Police Commission Stephen Doherty to adjourn the meeting at 2:40 pm. All ayes,
motion carried.
