The alderman were given a tour of the filtration system, concession area, changing rooms, swimming pool, tot area and staff office. Pete Merkel explained the need for repairing old partitions in the women's changing area. Also included in the tour was an explanation of the filtration system, and Merkel answered any questions the alderman had on the use of the pool, cost factors, staffing, and maintenance. 7:41 PM - The regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order with the following Alderman in attendance: Greg Bates, Dave Lawson, and Bill Baird who arrived at 8:00 pm) OTHER PRESENT: Park Director Merkel, Assistant Park Maintenance Supt. Tom � Schmidt, Pool Manager Todd Trocki, and Recreation Supervisor Lorene Marcinek. The following agenda items were discussed: A) Update on Fort McHenry (Pro�ect Playground) . Almost $80,000 in donations have been received to date. Donations from several organizations are expected in the next few weeks. A "Crazy Bowl" is scheduled for April 23rd at the McHenry Recreation Bowl. Construction of the parking lot began 4/18/94. Construction of the playground is scheduled for May 18 through the 22nd. Landscaping went out to bid with ten businesses responding. Pending approval landscape installation should be between May 22nd and June lOth. B) Petersen Park Land Acquisition It was the concensus of the committee members to resubmit an application grant for next year. C) Development Grant for Brookside Park Merkel showed the committee map designs of Brookside Park. Smith Engineering has prepared an opinion of probable cost (see attached sheet) . Alderman Baird questioned the parking area and discussion followed on ways to avoid potential parking problems. Merkel suggested that the City would have an easier time receiving a development grant � for Brookside Park than tyring to obtain a land acquisition grant for Petersen Park. Bates suggested submitting two grants, creating a better Clerk�Sc�R��a��ility to receive a grant of some sort. Baird asked about insurance coverage. Merkel explained the City is covered under the general insurance policy. E) Director's Renort - Summer brochure has been mailed out to residents. 2. Rules for the boat launch were passed out and adopted. Anticipated opening for the launch is June lst. F) New Business l. Bates requested that the Brookside Park area be monitored for illegal riding of motor bikes. It was a cause of concern last year. 2. Summer registration is scheduled for May 7th from 7:00 am - 10:00 am. 3. Bates requested that portable facilities be used at East Beach Park this summer. � 4. Lorene submitted a Park Department request for a new computer system. Bates will discuss the matter with the City Administrator. 5. The proposed bike path needs to obtain an easement from Jim Althoff and the Zion Lutheran Church. The McHenry Conservation District will handle the legal work. The easement will be granted to the City of McHenry. 6. Petersen Park will be used by the Little League this year for some games. Scheduling will not conflict with the Pigtail League. Bates asked to go into executive session at 9:55 pm to discuss a personal matter. Meeting went back into open session at 10:10 pm. Further New Business 7) Negotiations with the school board were brought up but no information was given. 8) Next meeting will be held the 3rd Tuesday of June at the Peterson Park Horse Barn.
