Please accept my apology for this error. CH Attachment ... Revised: 5/29/97 SUMMARY PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE MEETING May 14, 1997 Chairman Bolger called the meeting to order at 6:35 PM with the following in attendance: .lderman Bolger Alderman Baird .Alderman Glab Pam Althoff Mayor Cuda Fred Batt Residents: Debra Harness Rick Harness Jeff Hodgins Norm Lewis Sandy Lewis Kelly Skag Bob Skag Steve Leege Reopening of Beach The purpose of this meeting is the consideration of improving Beach Road from Green to Hilltop. Everyone received a letter from Kelly and Bob Skag who oppose this. Alderman Bolger advised that he is also opposed to this, but is willing to discuss it. Jeff Hodgins of 3505 Beach would like the road repaired but feels additional traffic will be a problem, specifically speeders. Thinks Biscayne could be used as an outlet. Also the road is very dusty. The resident at 908 Bonita is concerned about the configuration of the road. Also the resident at 910 Bonita does not want an "S" curve. They would like Beach paved from Hollywood west to Green Street. They are concerned about the safety of the children going to the park. The resident at 3501 Beach does not care if the road is paved. They did prepare a petition and of the 97 people talked to -- 93 are opposed to opening the road. Alderman Baird would like the road open especially after Bull Valley Road is completed. All the residertts agreed that more police need to be visible because of the speed of the traffic. f The resident vho lives at Beach and Bonita advised that cars are continually running into their mailbox and is concerned for the safety of the children. Alderman Glab asked about the area covered in the petition. Was it all of McHenry Shores or just the residents near Beach. The petition only covered the residents in the immediate vicinity and was not representative of all the residents in McHenry Shores. Glab stated that the road eventually needs to go through, however, maybe it should not be done this year. Bolger agrees with Glab and perhaps it is not necessary to cut through all the way to Hilltop. To spend that amount of money from Hilltop to Bonita for something people don't want, seems to be foolish. He would like to put this on hold for a year. Eventually Beach will have to be improved. Steve Leege of 3511 Biscayne is also concerned for the safety of the children, speeders, and high traffic volume. Any attempt to relieve the traffic on Biscayne would be welcome. He went on to say that the ndividuals signing the petition were told it would not result in increased traffic on Biscayne. 7'he idea of increasing traffic on Biscayne is not acceptable. Baird advised that Bull Valley Road will not be done this year. He would like Beach road improved from Green to Hollywood. He is concerned about the safety of the children but does not feel Beach •,ill be inundated with traffic. He suggested that a questionnaire be sent out to poll the residenr.s about this issue. We should also advise the residents how the reconfiguration of Bull Valley Road will affect their subdivision. A stop sign should be installed on Beach and Bonita and a stop sign on the "S" curve at Biscayne and Bonita. Glab stated that traffic and the safety of the children seem to be the main concerns. Perhaps the residents attending the meeting should speak to their neighbors about driving more responsibly in the area. If this will only help 6 to 8 residents then he is against it. Alderman Bolger suggested dust proofing the old Beach and make no improvements this year. Alderman Baird would like Beach improved from Green to Hollywood. Alderman Glab is in favor of paving Beach from Green to Bonita. Motion to recommend to the City Council to improve Beach from Green to Hollywood. On a voice vote, all ayes.
