. PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE MEETING
October 15, 2013
�' Aldermen's Conference Room, 5:00 p.m.
In Attendance: Committee Members: Chairman Alderman Blake, Alderman
Wimmer and Alderman Santi. Absent: None.
Others in Attendance: Assistant City Administer Martin, Director of Public Works
Schmitt, and Office Assistant Leah Rutter
Chairman Alderman Blake called the meeting to order at 5:03 p.m.
Agenda Item 1: Review of Honorary Sign Application for George P. Freund
Assistant City Administer Martin stated that staff received an honorary street application
submitted by Bob and Michael Freund for George P. Freund. They requested that the honorary
street be at the intersection of Main Street and Green Street. After reviewing the application, the
committee agrced that all criteria has been satisfied and that this should go forward to the City
Council.
Motion by Alderman Wimmer, and seconded by Alderman Santi to recommend to the City
Council approval of the honorary street sign for George P. Freund at the intersection of Main
Street and Green Street.

Agenda Item 2: Review of proposed improvements to Venice Avenue
Public Works Director explained the proposed improvements for Venice Avenue which includes
the connection to Riverside Drive creating a one-way eastbound traffic only and inclusion of the
full improvement project in the city's Five-Year Capital Improvement Program. The conceptual
estimate of cost represents a total reconstruct of Venice Avenue in the amount of$295,236. Staff
recommends utilizing Public Works personnel to remove trees, existing concrete curb, fencing
and installing asphalt at the eastern end of Venice Avenue at Riverside Drive for a temporary
connection until the full improvement can be financed.
Alderman Wimmer and Alderman Santi, opined that this improvement will increase the
marketability of the Dobyn's House property.
Alderman Santi inquired about the timetable. Public Works Director stated the City's work will
take place after ComEd either moves two poles or installs a guide wire. He noted that a meeting
with ComEd will take place on October 17th and he will have more information at that time.

Public Works Director is looking for residential input and Alderman Blake agreed that
residential support is definitely needed.
Alderman Santi requested that time and material be tracked for the City's portion of the
improvement.
Motions by Alderman Santi, seconded by Alderman Wimmer, to have staff perform the
temporary work for Venice Avenue as presented.

New Business:
Another Public Works Committee meeting is needed to discuss an ordinance for water
conservation. A Wednesday meeting will be scheduled; no date has been set.
