HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 4/25/2000 - Human Relations Commission CITY OF McHENRY HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION MEETING �. TU ES DAY, Apri I 25, 2000 Meeting was called to order at 7:08 P.M. The following members were present, Jason Glaw, Sue Becker, Kari Horsch, Val Hobson, Linda Wolff, Pat Buhrman, Jose Lagunas, and Gwen Doolan. Excused absences, Werner Ellmann, Julie Babenko. Late Gail Wolfineyer. Approval of Minutes Horsch made a motion to approve minutes as read, seconded by Becker. Motion carried unanimously. Old Business Buhrman reported on the April 7th Managing Diversity Conference sponsored by the Northeastern Plan Commission. It was attended by Buhrman, Ellmann, and several other members of various McHenry County H.R.C. members. The conference offered many insights into planning for a diverse population. There was a discussion regarding the plans for the June 6th Town Hall Meeting on Racism sponsored by the Governor's Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes. � The motion was made by Hobson to provide no more than $100.00 to cover the cost of a light dinner buffet prior to the meeting, seconded by Becker. Motion carried unanimously. It was decided to contact Perry Moy from Plum Garden and Tacos EI Norte for further information on catering services. Buhrman related the fact that all the invitations from the McHenry Human Relations Commission had been sent out. Glaw made a motion to ask for the cities support for a web page, seconded by Wolfineyer. Motion carries unanimously. New Business Julia Biel Claussen, Director of C.A.H.M.C.O. ( Corporation for Affordable Homes of McHenry County) spoke about the need for affordable homes in the area. It was created in 1995 by several social service agencies who worked with low income families. They have helped 59 families purchase their first homes through their First Time Home buyers Program. They do not have any programs in place presently for renters, they refer people to the McHenry County Housing Authority. Ms. Claussen provided us a lot to think about. Public Participation Bill Buhrman of the McHenry Plan Commission and T.P. Matthews spoke about the need for more low cost housing in our community. �-- Adiournment Wolf made motion to adjourn at 8:08 seconded by Becker. Motion carried unanimously.
