Dear City of McHenry Human Relations Members,
Happy Holidays! Our December 26 meeting is cancelled for lack of a quorum.
Vai Hobson has resigned from our commission. She has moved to Round
Lake. We wish her well. Our January 23, meeting will be used for
reorganization.
My husband Bill and I will be honored by the Illinois Department of Human
Rights on December19. This will take place during the formal presentation of
the Annual Report of the Governor's Commission on Discrimination and Hate
Crimes. We are happy to share this honor with all of you, for all the work you
have done this past year.
I would like to share some of President Clinton's words at the U.S.S. Cofe
memorial. " The idea of common humanity and unity amidst diversity, so
`— purely embodied by those we mourn today, must surely confound the minds of
the hate-filled terrorists who killed them. They envy our strength without
understanding the values that give us strength. Such people can take
innocent life. They can never heal, or build harmony, or bring people together.
that is work only free, law-abiding people can do. We must emulate the lesson
of the lives of these heroes, of how they worked together, of how they lived
together, of how they reached across all the lines that divided them and
embraced their common humanity and the common values of freedom and
service."
We have many opportunities to bring kindness and compassion to our city. As
we go boldly into the new century, know that your hard work is greatly
appreciated by our community. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Pat
