Letter sent to businesses in City of McHenry soliciting donations for
Millennium Celebration weekend.
Letter sent to area churches requesting participation in Millennium Praise
Celebration.
Copy of Millennium Brochure Committee Meeting minutes from their
February 24, 1999 meeting.
� Update: Millennium Praise Celebration: Bobbi Pantaleo has been checking on
possible locations for the Millennium Praise Celebration to be held
January 2, 2000. East Campus High School did not recommend their
facility because of the acoustics. Parkland Jr. High will be undergoing
renovations during this time.
Doug Domeracki, Assistant Principal at West Campus High School told
Bobbi that the school gymnasium is open and available. However, there
is a fee of $121.00 for rent, $288.00 for custodial services and a copy of
an insurance certificate is required. The school also requires that a tarp
be placed over the floor to protect it from harm. Mr. Domeracki told
suggested that the Committee contact the McHenry Area Chamber for use
of a tarp. Bobbi will contact the Chamber. (Please be sure to read the
attached letfer sent to area churches.)
Millennium Community Application: Application is currently being made
to the White House Millennium Council, through the Mayor's office, to
officially designate the City of McHenry as a "Millennium Community."

Ideas for April 26, 1999 Meeting:

■ Invite a member of the Landmark Commission to attend April Committee Meeting to
discuss ideas for Saturday events at City Hall, such as photo contest, video or slide show
of landmark homes in the City, various displays, etc.
■ Talk to various service organizations about serving food at Friday night events at Petersen
Park.
■ Report from Lisa Benoit of Event Planners
■ Items for time capsule??
■ Production of millennium banners
■ Special ceremony on Saturday, January 1, 2000 to honor all those who generously donated

McHENRY—Human relations commis-
sioners want the city's millennium festivities•
to include an anti-discrimination pledge and
cultural activities.
The commission has created "The.
McHenry Pledge." If approved by the city
council, residents would sign the pledge in.
honor of human rights and agree to"treat all
people with dignity and respect."
Commissioners agreed Tuesday to ask
the.council to post the pledge at city hall�
during the Millennium Celebration, sched=.
uled for the weekend of Dec. 31 through �

ful way to start off the millennium,"commis-
sion Chairman Pat Buhrman said. •

of various ethnic backgrounds and lifestyles� '

to discrimination in Birmingham, Ala.,

"I believe every thought and every act of� �'
. intolerance is harmful; if it is my thought or
act, then it is harmful to me as well as oth=�
ers,"the pledge states. v

As part of our Millennium Celebration, the City of McHenry Millennium
Committee, of which I am Chairman, is soliciting donations from area businesses
to sponsor a banner contest, fireworks display, time capsule with plaque, and to
help underwrite the cost of a display case for McHenry's Sesquicentennial and
Millennium quilts. A breakdown of the cost for each of these items follows:
Banner Contest Prize Money $500.00
� Fireworks Display $10,000.00
Time Capsule & Plaque $1,000.00
2- Display Cases for Quilts $5,000.00
On January 1, 2000, a reception will be held at the Municipal Center honoring
all those who helped make this celebration possible through their donations.
I have enclosed for your review information on the banner contest along with
copies of articles from the Northwest Herald and the Chicaqo Tribune describing
the contest and some of the festivities and events planned for the Millennium
weekend.
We are requesting donations from McHenry businesses to help underwrite the
cost of this Celebration. If you are interested in providing financial support,
please contact City Administrator John Lobaito at 815-363-2108. The Millennium
Committee thanks you in advance for your generous donation, or your kind
consideration.

February 24, 1999

Chairman William Bolger called the meeting to order at 7 : 00 p.m. He
introduced the 1936 Centennial Brochure as well as the 1986
Sesquicenten;zial Booklet . He suggested in the Millennium Brochure, the
City would w«nt to include the activities and events which have occurred
since the Sesquicentennial Booklet was printed in 1986 .
A list of pertinent events was provided to all attendees . Chairman
Bolger suggested a list of potential ideas or topics to be considered
for inclusion in the Millennium Brochure be compiled and presented to a
committee comprised of the City Clerk, Nancy Fike and perhaps a few
others who would be willing to help determine the best topics to be
incorporated into the brochure.
Following discussion it was the consensus of those present to have each
of the following topics researched by the individuals designated:

General discussion occurred regarding the time frame for development of
the brochure . It was the consensus of those present to have the
brochure ready for distribution by December 31, 1999 . It was suggested
an addendum to the brochure could be prepared and added which could
include actual festivities which occurred on December 31st and January
lst in celebration of the millennium.
Chairman Bolger noted he would request monies from the City Council in
addition to business sponsorships for the funding of the brochure.
� ' It was agreed the Millennium Brochure Committee would meet monthly. The
� next meeting would be held on March 24, 1999 at 7 : 00 p.m. in the
Municipal Building Council Chambers . Follow up to topies previously
mentioned should be completed by March 24th. All members are asked to
bring their research findings to the next meeting.
Chairman Bolger adjourned the meeting at 7 : 55 p.m.
