HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 8/16/1999 - Millennium Committee Millennium Committee Meeting
- August 16, 1999 7:00 PM
Attendance: Mayor Cuda, Bobbie Pantaleo, Joyce Story, Lisa Benoit, Sheila
Beil, and Marci Geraghty.
Meeting Dates: The attached list of ineeting dates was approved by the
Committee. Please note due to conflicting schedules, the August 30 meeting
date and time have been changed to Tuesday, August 31 at 6:30 PM.
Ice Fishing Derby: Pete Merkel, Director of Parks & Recreation will attend the
September 13, 1999 meeting to update the Committee on the Fishing Derby and
bonfire arrangements.
Banners: Lisa Benoit and Sheila Beil updated the Committee on their progress
to find a company to supply the Millennium banners that will be hung around the
City. A vendor has not been found to date. They will report further progress at
the next meeting.
Placement of the banners on Riverside Drive was discussed. Earlier in the
month, a meeting was held at City Hall with the President of the Riverside Drive
Area Business Association (RABA). This association hangs banners on
Riverside Drive during the holiday season. In an effort to work with RABA, it was
decided that a Millennium banner would be hung on every other pole on
Riverside Drive and RABA would use the remaining poles for their Christmas
banners. And, we also agreed the Christmas wreaths would hang opposite our
banners on every pole.
Tuesday, August 31, the Committee must decide on the colors to be used on the
banners. We will try to match the colors of the banners hung on Riverside Drive,
royal blue with white letter. Please be prepared to discuss this at the next
meeting.
Praise Celebration: Choir rehearsals will be held at the Church of Holy
Apostles. Pursuant to the request, a certificate of insurance has been mailed to
them.
Copies of music to be sung on January 2 were made and distributed to the choir
members.
Time Capsule: Information booklets are attached to this report for your review.
(Committee members only). The Committee must decide when they want this
capsule to be opened. Ideas of 100 years and 1000 years were given at the last

meeting. Maybe a holiday or specific event in the future could mark this day?
This will be discussed and a decision must be made at the next meeting.
The Committee agreed to ask the city residents to think of a famous or original
quote to inscribe on the stone marker. The entry blank that will appear in the
Northwest Herald and possibly the Sun is attached. This entry blank will also
appear in the fall issue of the City of McHenry Newsletter.
Quilt Case/Quilt: As of this date, there is nothing to report on the quilt case or
the quilt. When specific information is available, the Committee will be informed.
Coffee Cart: The Committee decided that Goldies will supply a coffee cart with
coffee, hot chocolate, and sweets. We will ask for donations or charge a nominal
fee just to cover our costs. Lisa Benoit will update the Committee on her
progress.
T-Shirts/Sweatshirts: Sheila Beil has been researching possible vendors to
provide us with shirts and sweatshirts. She is trying to get samples to bring to
the next meeting.
Calendars: At the last meeting, the Committee discussed the possibility of
getting an aerial shot of the City of McHenry and placing this picture on a
`Millennium Calendar." The calendar would only have one picture and a tear-off
page for each month. This would be more economical since we would only
require one aerial. Also, collectors would probably like to frame the picture. The
discussion of a sponsor for this calendar was discussed. Mayor Cuda said he
would look for someone to donate the money to print this calendar. In return,
their name would be on the cover, i.e. "compliments of . . ." Lisa Benoit will
speak to Mr. Predergast, a local aerial photographer about the possibility of
donating a photo. She will update us at the next meeting.
Millennium Essays & Collages: As of this date, the Jr. High and Grade Schools
have not responded.
