Subj: 2004 Goals and Objectives
The following have been submitted as possible EDC attainable goals and objectives for 2004(in
no particula.r order):
1. Support reopening of McHenry Downtown Theatre
2. Voice objection to Metra's possible Johnsburg railyard and station
3. Promote siting Metra railyard and/or station south of McHenry Corporate Center
4. Riverwalk—promote 2004 groundbreaking
5. Tourism—encourage City Council to pass Hotel Tax and cooperate with County EDC
tourism committee
6. Recognition Awards—
o Improved commercial corridors
o Efforts of individuals and business owners
�.`, o New arrivals in town
7. Support staxewide alternative school funding
o Relationship between Governor and State Board of Education is unhealthy
o Tax monies are sent to Springfield with little return to McHenry County schools
o Loca.l communities will deteriorate if local funding is sole support of schools
8. Support reopening of McHenry Downtown Theatre
9. Support improvement of city administrative infrastructure to court, attract and entice
upscale commercial entrepreneurs
10. Identify commercial deficiencies(i.e. large home furniture store)and encourage locating
of retailer in city
_ i 1. Encourage diversification of retail offerings in city (too many banks, payday advance,
car title loans, pizza parlors, etc)
12. Assist in developing administrative arm of city Staff and departments which attract
development
13. Encourage development of vacant land next to Sullivan Foods
14. Encourage beautification of Route 31 between Lillian Street and John Street
15. Transportation issues
16. Business retention
17. Downtown vitality
18. Vacant office space
19. Restaurant and retail development along Route 31
