Wednesday, September 30, 1992
7:00 P.M.
. .
The Finance Committee met in the Aldermen's Conference Room.
Finance Committee members present: Chairman Lieder, Aldermen Bolger
and Adams. Others present: Alderman Donahue, Mayor Busse,
Aministrator Peterson, and Employee Representatives Oliver, Combs,
Gilpin, Owsley, Kunzer, Marth, and Reid.
Chairman Lieder called the meeting to order and stated the purpose
of the meeting was to begin a review of employee group health plan
options in light of budget constraints. He indicated an effort to
include employee participation through employee representatives was
being made. The Finance Committee had discussed this matter and
wants employees involved in reviewing alternatives. During last
year's budget review it became very difficult to produce a balanced
budget and every effort will need to be made for next year. High
quality coverage will be sought at reasonable premiums. Current
coverage expires December 31, 1992 and a change in coverage requires
a 30 day advance notice to our current carrier.
After discussion, it was determined a follow-up meeting should be
held as soon as practical. At this meeting representatives from
Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. would discuss the types of insurance
coverages available (i.e. HMO, PPO, self-insured, indemnity) and
answer other general questions from the Finance Committee and
' employee representatives. All City employees are invited to these
meetings. In response to a question, it was indicated the employee
representatives should share the results of these Finance Committee
meetings with their fellow employees.
There being no further business, the meeting was ad3ourned at 7:18
