Members Present: Chairperson Alderman, Murgatroyd, Alderman McClatchey
Others Present: City Clerk Althoff, Administrator Lobaito, Assistant
Administrator Maxenier, Alderman Bolger, Statute in the Square coordinator/
originator James Clegg
Chairman Murgatroyd called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. He stated the
purpose of this evening's meeting was to determine how much money the City
of McHenry should donate toward Mr. Clegg's Statute in the Square project.
Mr. Clegg provided the committee with a project overview explaining he was
seeking monies enabling the purchase of four granite slabs to house the
engraved names of McHenry County Civil War veterans who died in battle. The
City of Woodstock has pledged $5000 and many other municipalities have
expressed their intent to pledge monies as well. Mr. Clegg stated fund raising
efforts should be completed by July to facilitate the project's start.
Chairman Murgatroyd suggested the City of McHenry pledge monies as did the
City of Woodstock. Some discussion followed as to the pledge amount.
Alderman Bolger suggested the City coordinate fund raising efforts with other
city area service organizations, including, but not limited to, VFW, American
Legion, Rotary, Kiwanis, Jaycees, etc. Chairman Alderman Murgatroyd
L, suggested $3000 as an amount. Alderman Bolger recommended the monies
not be expensed through the general fund with property tax revenue.
Motion by McClaltchey, seconded by Murgatroyd to recommend to full council a
pledge amount of$3000 for the Statute in the Square project.

Nay: None
Absent: Bolger
Motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
