Board of Police Commissioners
May 3, 2023
Police Chairman Sue Meyer called the meeting to order at 2:00 pm in the Police Administration
Conference Room with the following Commissioners present John Jones and Police Commission Stephen
Doherty and Guest Monte Johnson. Also present was Chief John Birk; Deputy Chief Tom Walsh and
Administrative Assistant Deb Shuett.
Public Comment
None.
Swearing in for new Police Commissioner Stephen Doherty.
Swearing in for Ethics Committee, Stephen Doherty and John Jones
1. Motion to Approve February 1, 2023 Meeting Report
Motion by Police Chairman Sue Meyer to approve meeting minutes. Police Commission John
Jones and second by Police Chairman Sue Meyer to approve the minutes from the February 1,
2023, meeting. Police Commission meeting as presented. All ayes, motion carried.
2. Unfinished Business
Personnel Update – Swore in 3 new Police Officers on April 19, 2023 Alex Lopez was a lateral
Police Officer from Chicago for 5 years and is currently in Field Training. Trevor Pederson and
Matthew Meyers are currently at SLEA (Suburban Law Enforcement Academy) for 16 weeks of
training.
Fully staffed for the first time since 2008 – 51 Officers.
Next academy slots open will be starting in January 2024. Next 2 candidates are Steven
Barjaktarevic and Nicholas Skleba.
Cole Templin is in step 2 in the Field Training process.

Motion by Police Chairman Sue Meyer to adjourn meeting, Police Commission John Jones and
second by Police Commission Stephen Doherty to adjourn the meeting at 2:20 pm. All ayes,
motion carried.
