Maintenance of the Petersen Farm House: Greg Lofgren reported that he has spoken to Pete
Merkel regarding holding a meeting with the commission about our concerns for the care and
upkeep of this property. It was also noted that the Parks and Rec department will be conducting
a meeting which would include the Petersen Farm however; the Landmark Commission
members need not attend. Pete requested a list of damaged items from the water leak.
Marya Dixon noted that she had spoken with Ambrose from P&R and he told her that a list of
the damages would need to go before the city council. P&R has moved items and cleaned up the
water along with installing fans to help dry out the carpets.
-- Gretchen Thomas volunteered to house the survey files in her home until the office at the farm
can be completed. While that is happening files will then be transferred onto computer disk by

Gretchen Thomas expressed concern for the priority level of maintaining the farm structures by
the Parks and Recreation department of the city. Greg Lofgren explained that Pete Merkel and
Ken Fisk are working together to ensure that the property will be maintained properly. Greg
Lofgren will continue to work closely with Pete Merkel on this matter.
Pat Schafer volunteered to go to the house, make a list of items that were damaged and apply to
the city for reimbursement.
New Business:
Pat Schafer reported that she had visited the Greenfield Museum and Farm exhibit in Wisconsin,
she had noted that she made up a list of items they displayed and how it looked. We will be able
to utilize this design and others like it for the Petersen Farm Museum.
The Count's House:
The new owner of the house would like to install a fence around the parameter of the home. She
requested our guidance. The commission discussed what had previously been there over time,
this included a white picket fence, but it was only located on the Waukegan side of the structure.
The Main Street side is considered the front and that has had in the past a wrought iron fence
with a gate. The commission suggested that the owner purchase an aluminum fencing product
and have it painted black to simulate wrought iron. We also suggested looking at the house
located on 3rd and Main Street, they had recently installed beautiful fencing.
New Commission Logo:
Commission members love the new design by Colin Schultheis, new letterhead, envelopes and
thank you cards will be printed soon.
Commission Members Requirements:
It was noted that a resignation letter has been received by Judy Franks and submitted to the
Mayor. Greg Lofgren noted that Merle Janssen would be submitting his resignation as well. Pat
Schafer will follow up and report to the commission at the next meeting. A copy of the 1992
membership proposal was located and distributed to the commission. There was miscellaneous
discussion. Gretchen Thomas suggested that a clean copy be made, sent to the commission
members so they could review and insert it into their books and any new applicants should
receive a copy prior to their interview with the Mayor for a position on the commission. Dawn
Johnson will create a new copy and have Doug Martin distribute it in the next mailing.
Copier/Fax:
It was noted that the commission would like to purchase a color copier for the office at the
Petersen Farm. This item will be priced and evaluated for further discussion by the commission.
Pat Schafer moved to adjourn at 8:20 pm;Marya Dixon seconded no discussion and the motion
carried.
