their certificate of appropriateness, brochure of the benefits of having a landmark designation, a

was a combination of 1800's Greek revival with touches of Craftsman and possibly Victorian era
modifications. Pat Schafer was given a number of items from the Justen's including a bottle a'
capper and a cherry pitter. She passed these items along to Greg Lofgren for storage. Additional e

a copy of one Justen will. The commission agreed to focus their attention to assisting with
promoting the sale of the home to an individual that will preserve it. A historical report will be tl
written and the commission will work with the local newspaper for an article.
New Business:
Harbor Wallbanger's façade grant: Dawn Johnson noted that in the November 6, 2001 minutes
a motion was made by Pat Schafer to award Harbor Wallbanger's $5,000.00 towards their grant
application. Various members of the commission have viewed the structure renovations and
approved wholeheartedly of the improvement. Therefore, after viewing the estimates and
billings from Harbor Wallbanger's a motion was made by Pat Schafer to issue a check from our
façade grant budget in the amount of$5,000.00. Dawn Johnson seconded, no discussion
followed and the motion carried. Dawn Johnson will contact Mayor Althoff to discuss the
official check presentation at a city council meeting and any necessary steps needed to complete
this action. Additional promotional ideas were also discussed, including an article with pictures
highlighting the changes in the local newspaper and quarterly city newsletter.
Thank you letters: Pat reported that a number of thank you letters from the commission are in
order. She and Dawn Johnson will begin work on them within the next month. A detailed
account of the recipients and reasons will follow in the October meeting.
Fundraiser ideas: Gretchen Thomas noted a fundraiser idea which would include signs that
could be placed upon the streetlights throughout the city during one month of the year. This
would highlight a historic home or business in the city.
Historic Preservation Awards: Shelly Trost provided applications for structures to nominate.
Commission members will submit the applications to the awards committee. The applications
need to be received by September 27, 2002.
Dundee IL Walk: On September 21 S`Dundee Illinois is hosting a historic walk of homes within
their city. A number of the commission members will be attending.
