MINUTES JUNE 8, 1999
THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER AT 7:21 PM BY CHAIRPERSON GREG LOFGREN AT
THE MUNICIPAL CENTER. MEMBERS PRESENT INCLUDED: RICHARD KRATOCHVIL, GREG
LOFGREN, PAT SCHAFER, GRETCHEN THOMAS, SHELLY TROST, AND LORI WILHELM .
MEMBERS ABSENT: . NANCY FIKE, HANK NELL, AND BOB NOVAK. GUESTS INCLUDED:
MERLE JANSSEN, JEFF KLEINHANS, AND BOB PETERSEN.
LORI WILHELM MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE MAY MEETING. PAT
SCHAFER SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED.
THERE WERE NO EXPENSES. THE BALANCE STANDS AT$11,075.65. LORI WILHELM
MOVED THE TREASURER'S REPORT BE ACCEPTED, PAT SCHAFER SECONDED THE
MOTION, AND THE MOTION CARRIED.
BOB PETERSEN INFORMED THE COMMISSION THAT THERE IS A POSSIBILITY A NEW
SPLIT RAIL FENCE MAY BE PUT UP IN FRONT OF THE PROPERTY AND THE SILO ROOF
MAY BE REPLACED. BOB HAS PICTURES OF THE PICKET FENCE IN FRONT OF THE
PROPERTY WHICH WAS THERE FROM 1886 THROUGH 1946. THE CITY WILL HAVE TO
COME BEFORE THE COMMISSION WITH A CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS. THE
COMMISSION MEMBERS WILL PICK A DATE AT THE JULY MEETING TO VIEW THE ROOF
REPAIRS AT THE PETERSEN PROPERTY.
THE COMMISSION WOULD LIKE TO THANK LORI WILHELM FOR HER WORK IN GETTING
THE PLAQUE INSTALLED ON THE PETERESEN FARMHOUSE. HANK NELL, LORI WILHELM,
PAT SCHAFER, AND GREG LOFGREN WENT FOR A LITTLE INSTALLATION CEREMONY.
WHEN THE COMMISSION GOES TO VIEW THE ROOF WORK, A PICTURE WILL BE TAKEN
AND AN ARTICLE WILL BE WRITTEN ABOUT THE PLAQUE.
LORI WILHELM HAS NOT GOTTEN ANY MORE HISTORY ON THE BUSS FORD BUILDINGS.
THE COMMISSION MAY HAVE TO LOOK AT OTHER SOURCES FOR THE INFORMATION.
THE COMMISSION NEEDS TO HEAR FROM THE CITY CONCERNING THE CHANGES IN THE
WALGREEN'S DRAWINGS. GREG WILL SPEAK TO THE CITY STAFF. COMMISSION
MEMBERS REVIE`vVED THE WALGREEN'S PLANS AND COMMISSION CONCERNS ABOUT
THE DEMOTION AND THE NEW WALGREEN'S BUILDING. PAT SCHAFER SHOWED A
PICTURE OF THE SPRING HOUSE THAT WAS NEAR THE NORTHWESTERN HOTEL. ONE
POSSIBILITY FOR THE POCKET PARK WOULD BE TO GET WALGREENS TO REPLICATE THE
SPRING HOUSE ON THIS LOCATION.
AT THE JULY MEETING THE COMMISSION WILL BEGIN GOING OVER SURVEYS.
CHAIRMAN LOFGREN EXPLAINED THE WALKING TOURS. NANCY FIKE WILL LEAD THE
SATURDAY, JULY 17, 1999 10:00 AM TOUR OF RIVERSIDE DRIVE, ELM AND GREEN
STREETS. SHELLY TROST WILL LEAD THE WEDNESDAY, JULY 21, 1999 6:00 PM TOUR OF
RIVERSIDE DRIVE, ELM AND GREEN STREETS. GREG LOFGREN WILL LEAD BOTH MAIN
STREET TOURS ON SATURDAY AND WEDNESDAY. GREG WILL LOOK INTO POSSIBLY
SETTING UP THE PHOTO DISPLAY SOMEWHERE DURING THE FIESTA WEEK ACTIVITIES.
�., GREG WILL GET THE HANDOUTS FOR THE WALKING TOURS PRINTED.
�_. PAT SCHAFER WILL WORK ON GETTING DIFFERENT PHOTOS INTO THE THREE
LANDMARK DISPLAY BOXES AROUND THE CITY.
THE COMMISSION MEETINGS WERE HELD AT LOCATIONS OTHER THAN THE
MUNICIPAL CENTER LAST SUMMER. IF WE WANT TO DO THIS PEOPLE WILL NEED
TO LOOK FOR BUILDINGS IN WHICH TO MEET. MEMBERS SHOULD ASK OWNERS
TO BE THERE AND GIVE SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE STRUCTURE.
LORI WILHELM MOVED THAT THE COMMISSION JOIN THE MCHENRY COUNTY
HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND AUTHORIZE THE PAYMENT OF $20.00 MEMBERSHIP
DUES. SHELLY TROST SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED.
LORI WILHELM EXPLAINED THE NED NEUMAN BUILDINGS AT THE BACK OF THE
PARK ON GREEN STREET. ONE BUILDING IS A GARAGE AND THE OTHER IS A
CONCRETE BLOCK BUILDING USED FOR MEAT PROCESSING FOR REGNER'S
BUTCHER SHOP.
SHELLY TROST MOVED FOR ADJOURNMENT AT 8:29 PM. RICHARD KRATOCHVIL
SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED.
