HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 12/1/1998 - Landmark Commission THE CITY OF MCHENRY LANDMARK COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES DECEMBER 1, 1998 THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER AT 7:15 PM BY CHAIRPERSON GREG LOFGREN AT THE MUNICIPAL CENTER. MEMBERS PRESENT INCLUDED: BARB BYRON,NANCY FIKE,GREG LOFGREN,HANK NELL,BOB NOVAK, CAROL JEAN SMITH,LORI WILHELM,AND SARA WILHELM. JIM DORAN WAS ABSENT. GUESTS PRESENT WERE:BETSY BOLDT, CHICAGO TRIBUNE,JOE NAPOLITANO, AND BOB PETERSEN. HANK MOVED THAT THE MINUTES BE ACCEPTED. NANCY FIKE SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED. THERE WAS NO TREASURER'S REPORT. NANCY FIKE MOVED THE COMMISSION DONATE$7,000 TO HELP WITH THE COST OF REPLACING WOOD SHINGLES ON THE PETERSEN BARN. CAROL JEAN SMITH SECONDED THE MOTION. HANK NELL BROUGHT UP HIS CONCERN REGARDING THE USE OF THE MONEY FOR OTHER THAN A COMMERCIAL STRUCTURE. JOE NAPOLITANO INFORMED THE COMMISSSION THAT ANY COST OVERRUNS WOULD BE PICKED UP BY THE CITY. THE MOTION PASSED 7 TO 1. DISCUSSION NOW TURNED TO THE SUBJECTS OF "APPLICATION FOR LANDMARK DESIGNATION" AND "APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS." THE COMMISSION FELT NO FEE SHOULD BE CHARGED FOR APPLICATIONS AT THIS TIME. THE COMMISSION ALSO FELT THERE SHOULD BE A SECTION ON THE FORM TO INDICATE THE RESULTS. JOE NAPOLITANO WILL WORK ON THIS. THE COMMISSION FELT THAT LANDMARK SCHOOL DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR A FACADE IMPROVEMENT GRANT UNDER THE GUIDELINES SET FOR COMMERCIAL STRUCTURES. NANCY FIKE MOVED THAT THE COMMISSION APPROVE THE PLAQUE FOR THE PETERSEN SITE AS PRESENTED INCLUDING INSTALLATION. BARB BYRON SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED. LORI WILHELM WILL SET UP A TIME FOR INSTALLATION AND CALL GREG. GREG WILL INFORM THE PRESS. CAROL JEAN SMITH MOVED THAT THE COMMISSION SEND A CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE OWNERS OF THE HOUSE AT THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF GREEN AND JOHN STREETS. HANK NELL SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED. GREG WILL DEVELOP A FORM FOR SHORT NOTE TAKING AT THE MEETINGS. THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE WILL THEN TYPE THE MINUTES. THE MINUTES WILL NOT CONTAIN ALL OF THE COMMISSION'S DISCUSSIONS,BUT TAPES OF THE MEETING WILL BE KEPT. THE CHAIRPERSON WILL CONTINUE TO READ THE TREASURER'S REPORT. THE COMMISSION FELT THAT THE MEMBERS CAN COORDINATE AND CONDUCT THE SURVEY OF THE CITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PRESERVATION ORDINANCE. A PROFESSIONAL COORDINATOR IS NOT NEEDED. THE COMMISSION DIVIDED INTO WORKING GROUPS,LORI CHAIRED THE BROCHURE SUBCOMMITTEE AND GREG CHAIRED THE SURVEY SUBCOMMITTEE. THEY WILL REPORT AT THE JANUARY MEETING. LORI MOVED FOR ADJOURNMENT AT 8:52 PM. BOB NOVAK SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED.
