MINUTES MARCH 3, 1998
THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER AT 7:25 PM BY CHAIRPERSON NANCY FIKE.
MEMBERS PRESENT INCLUDED: BARB BYRON, NANCY FIKE, HANK NELL, BOB NOVAK,
ANN WEST, LORI WILHELM, AND SARA WILHELM. THOSE ABSENT WERE MARIA ARZA,
GREG LOFGREN, AND CAROL JEAN SMITH .
A MOTION WAS MADE BY LORI WILHELM TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES FROM THE
FEBRUARY 3, 1998 MEETING. BOB NOVAK SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION
CARRIED.
NANCY FIKE REPORTED THAT PAYMENT OF $1,000 WAS MADE ON JANUARY 22, 1998 TO
NICK LYKOURETZOS OF THE WHALE'S.TAIL FOR A FACADE IMPROVEMENT GRANT. THE
BALANCE IN THE LANDMARK COMMISSION BUDGET IS $18, 029.89. BARB BYRON
MOVED THE TREASURER'S REPORT BE ACCEPTED. BOB NOVAK SECONDED THE
MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED.
NANCY FIKE MENTIONED THAT THE NEW COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR MAY
DIRECT THE LANDMARK COMMISSION.
\... THE NEW PART ONE SLIDE INTRODUCING THE SLIDESHOW WAS PRODUCED AND
PRESENTED BY LORI WILHELM.
THE COUNCIL OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION AGENCIES MET IN THE FORMER ALGONQUIN
VILLAGE HALL. ENDANGERED BUILDINGS AROUND THE COUNTY WERE DISCUSSED.
THE MCHENRY LANDMARK COMMISSION SUBMI I"1'ID THE TOWN CLUB AND EAST
CAMPUS HIGH SCHOOL. THE OCTOBER MEETING WILL BE HELD IN CARY.
UNDER THE PRESERVATION ORDINANCE, THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE SEEMS TO BE
"CERTIFICATES OF APPROPRIATENESS" AND WHO WILL ADMINISTER THIS.
UNDER NEW BUSINESS, PROGRAMS NEED TO BE ADDRESSED FOR THE SPRING AND
SUMMER ACCORDING TO THE MISSION STATEMENT.
NANCY FIKE PRESENTED A LISTING CONCERNING A VIDEO ON HISTORIC PRESERVATION
WHICH THE COMMISSION MAY PURCHASE. THE TITLE IS "STORE FRONTS THAT SELL." IT
HAS 40 SLIDES AND SELLS FOR$36.00. HANK NELL MOVED THAT THE COMMISSION
ORDER "STORES THAT SELL." BARB BYRON SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION
CARRIED.
A LETTER FROM MAYOR CUDA INFORMED THE COMMISSION OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF
THE "UPDATED COMPREHENSIVE PLAN."
THE COUNTY WILL BE USING THE KNOX HOME AT 312 S. GREEN ST. AS A WORK
HEADQUARTERS THEN IT WILL REVERT TO THE CITY. CAROL JEAN SMITH HAS TAKEN
PICTURES.
THERE WILL BE SOME PLANNING FOR PROGRAMS.
GREG LOFGREN HAS SUBMITTED THE MAAS BARN FOR RECOGNITION BY THE
MCHENRY COUNTY PRESERVATION COMMISSION.
t5 MAY IS PRESERVATION WEEK. HANK NELL ASKED ABOUT INFORMATION
CONCERNING TAX REDUCTION AND LOW INTEREST RATE LOANS FOR OWNERS
OF HISTORIC STRUCTURES FROM THE ILLINOIS HISTORIC PRESERVATION AGENCY.
LORI WILHELM QUESTIONED WHETHER PLED HOMES NEED TO BE REDONE.
HANK NELL MOVED FOR ADJOURNMENT AT 8:05PM. LORI WILHELM SECONDED
THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED.
