MARCH 4, 1997
THE BEGINNING TIME WAS NOT RECORDED. NO ROLL CALL WAS AVAILABLE.
THE THREE MAYORAL AND TWO CITY CLERK CANDIDATES WERE INTRODUCED
AND EACH SPOKE AND ANSWERED QUESTIONS CONCERNING THEIR POTENTIAL
POSITIONS AS THEY RELATE TO THE LANDMARK COMMISSION. CHAIRMAN FIKE
THANKED CAROL JEAN SMITH FOR GETTING THE CANDIDATES TO THE MEETING.
NANCY FIKE INTRODUCED JODY MCPHILLIPS FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT
WHO IS ASKING FOR ADVICE FROM THE COMMISSION ON WORKING LOCAL
HISTORY INTO HER ADVANCED PLACEMENT AMERICAN STUDIES. SEVERAL
MEMBERS MADE SUGGESTIONS.
MARIA ARZA REPORTED ON THE CHANGES TO THE FACADE GRANT APPLICATION
FORMS. CHRIS NOVAK MOVED THAT THE REVISIONS TO THE APPLICATION
FORMS BE ACCEPTED INCLUDING CHANGING "GENERAL COUNCIL" TO "CITY
COUNCIL" MEETINGS AND MOVING DATES DOWN TO THE CORNERS. THE MOTION
WAS AMENDED BY CHRIS NOVAK TO TAKE OUT THE WORDS "THIS IS
NECESSARY" ON PAGE 2. MARIA ARZA SECONDED. THE MOTION CARRIED.
CAROL JEAN SMITH BROUGHT UP THE IDEA OF BETTER SECURITY FOR THE MAPS
IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM. NANCY FIKE WILL TALK TO THE CITY ABOUT A
MORE SECURE PLACE FOR THE MAPS.
NANCY FIKE REPORTED THAT THE SLIDE SHOW WAS PRETTY MUCH READY TO
GO. A COUPLE OF SHOTS NEED TO BE TAKEN AND THE TITLE SLIDE NEEDS TO BE
FINISHED.
NANCY FIKE ASKED FOR DISCUSSION ON THE DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION.
LORI WILHELM REPORTED THAT THE CITY DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH MANPOWER
TO DO BOTH GREEN AND MAIN STREET IN THE SAME YEAR. MUCH DISCUSSION
ENSUED CONCERNING IDEAS FOR THESE AREAS.
NANCY FIKE TALKED TO THE OWNERS OF THE GRANGER HOUSE ON MAIN
STREET. THEY ARE IN NO HURRY FOR THE PALQUE, WE WILL LOOK INTO THIS
MORE IN APRIL.
CHAIRMAN FIKE REPORTED THAT THE COUNTY PRESERVATION NETWORKING
MEETING WAS A BIG SUCCESS. ABOUT 44 PEOPLE AT FENDED. THERE IS A
BOOKLET BEING COMPILED ON THE AREAS THE PEOPLE REPRESENT. THE NEXT
MEETING WILL PROBABLY BE IN SEPTEMBER.
NANCY FIKE REPORTED THAT JIM BECKER WAS THRILLED TO GET THE FACADE
IMPROVEMENT GRANT. MR. BECKER WILL STILL HAVE TO FURNISH US WITH
PICTURES.
NANCY FIKE MET WITH THE NEW CITY PLANNER. HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT
THE CITY. HE WAS NOT REAL FAMILIAR WITH PRESERVATION ORDINANCES.
NANCY FIKE ALSO TALKED WITH JOHN LOBAITO CONCERNING THE PROGRESS OF
THE PRESERVATION ORDINANCE. THEY ARE SCHEDULING AN INFORMATION
MEETING TO WHICH THE COMMISSION WILL BE INVITED.
NANCY FIKE IS IN THE PROCESS OF ORGANIZING A LIST OF BUILDINGS IN
MCHENRY. LOCAL PEOPLE ARE ALSO INPUTTING INFORMATION.
BARB BYRON MOVED THAT THE MEETING BE ADJOURNED, BOB NOVAK
SECONDED, THE MOTION CARRIED.
