COMMITTEE REPORTS -- Barb Gilpin reported that the McHenry State Bank is putting out an historic calendar and a video of McHenry. They called to ask the Landmark 's assistance in obtaining pictures of plaqued and historic homes and general historic information. Barb met with Linda Oeffling and the producer of the material . Carol Jean was asked to take any material the Landmark Commission has and get it to the Bank . Another idea presented was to contact the Northwest Herald and asked if the Landmark Commission could have a regular weekly column concerning old Landmark pictures. This would be done in an effort to make the public aware of the Landmark Commission 's existence and promote it . Adele will contact the editor of the paper to see if this is possible. Concerning Downtown Revitalization, discussion was held on how to proceed with the project . Barb G. felt that if we could get one building owner in each business district to revitalize their building , it might start a trend and encourage other businesses to join in. Therefore she suggested holding off on a joint meeting on October 3rd with businessmen and owners of all three business districts. It was decided to have Barb G. talk to Ron Bykowski for Riverside Drive, Adele would talk to Rose Lilligard on Green Street , Barb B. will talk to the owners of the old Vycital Building on Green Street . It was also decided to cancel the October 3 joint meeting . Concerning the Backhaus farmhouse on Crystal Lake Road which was supposedly given to the Landmark Commission through an annexation agreement , Nancy Fike suggested that the Commission advertise that the house is for sale and if someone wanted to buy it and move it , the money could go to the Landmark Commission to help finance some of our projects. Barb talked to the City Park Director to see if the City was interested in using the house for a recreation center or administration center. He said they were not interested . To move it very far would be very difficult and costly. Carol Jean was instructed to contact Father Sherry to see if Holy Apostles Church would be interested in using the building for their purposes. Barb G. will contact Dave Backhaus to see what the status of his development project is and get other statistics on the house. Mancy Fike gave Barb revised copies of the proposed preservation ordinance to present to the members. She asked that members review Article II on the last page and be prepared to discuss those issues at the October meeting . Carol Jean reported that the Full Gospel Church on John Street which was recently plaqued , would like to have a presentation ceremony at the Church on Sunday, September 10 at noon. Carol Jean will make the presentation and any members who can attend are asked to be present . Last year, Nancy Fike and Barb Byron started working on a project to use high school students to conduct a survey of historic city buildings. Time ran out before it could be coordinated . The teacher at East Campus who would be involved in this project is Dan Johnson. Nancy and Barb will discuss the project and report back later. Motion by Adele, seconded by Barb Byron, to adjourn at 8:28 P .M. Chairman Barb Gilpin
