HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 11/1/1994 - Landmark Commission (2) THE CITY OF MCHENRY LANDMARK COMMISSION November 1 , 1994 The regular meeting of the McHenry Landmark Commission was brought to order at 7 : 20 pm at the McHenry Municipal Center by Vice Chairman Larry Huck. Present were Carol Jean Smith, Lori. Wilhelm, Donnabel.le Glosson, Marya Dixon, Tom Bolger and Adele Froehlich. Absent were Barb Byron , Ruth Fenwick and Debbie Lane. Our new member Nancy Fike was introduced. Our Guest was Leeann Fike from the Mchenry High School . She is working on a class paper and must attend a City Meeting . FINANCIAL REPORT There was no financial report . MINUTES There were no minutes from the October 4th meeting due to not having a. quorum. No meeting was held. PLAQUING PROGRAM We will vote to plaque The Church of God on John St. at. the Dec . 5th meeting . Most of our commission members have not had the opportunity to view the church. The members who have not seen the church will meet Nov. 12th at 10 am at the Church. MISCELLANEOUS A letter was received. from Mr. John Lobaito, Director, Building and Zoning, about two demolition permits from Prime Commerical . They are seeking demolition for the houses at 1103 and 1119 South Rt . 31 . Larry Huck, acting chairman sent a letter to Mr. Lobaito giving permission to Prime Commercial Corporation to issue the permits . Carol. Jean and Donnabe.l.le viewed the homes and since the homes were of the post war construction they do not have any historical value to the city. Carol Jean would write a letter to Pam Althoff asking about getting a new member to replace one of our student members . Nancy Fike will ask at the school to see if a student would be interested in being on the commission . We would also like to have an architect on the commission. Tom Bolger will ask Mr. Bill Ewald if he would be interested . Marya made a motion for Carol Jean to write the letter to Pam Althoff. 2nd by Marva. Our next project is to get a preservation ordiance on the city books to help protect our. Landmark buildings . This will be our main goal for the coming year. We were concerned about the building on the corner of Riverside Dr. and. Rt . 120 . This building burnt last month and will now be torn down. This building had much history and many stories and we are sad to see it torn down. A motion by Carol Jean to elect new officers at the next meeting . All agreed , but the new chairman must be appoved by the Mayor. Ideas were bought up about having a contest for Preservation week next year. More discussion at later meetings . Meeting was ajourned at 8 : 45 pm.
