CITY OF MCHENRY LANDMARK COMMISSION

Clerk's Office and The regular meeting of the McHenry Landmark Commission was brought

Recreation The minutes were approved as read.

(Non-Emergency) Tom said he did not receive a report.

TRADE FAIR
om exp ained to the members that the reason for cancelling our
participation in the Trade Fair was that not enough members signed
LL Mayor up. He stated the Landmark Commission needs to be more committed if
"GVilliam J. Busse it will be successful .
City Clerk DEMOLITION PERMIT
Barbara E. Gilpin
Tom reported that the farmhouse at 1618 N. Richmond Rd. was in poor
Treasurer condition. The target Lillian Cairnspeople are not in a big hurry to demolish
it. The members felt we need to know more of the history of it.
Tom said he would ask for a delay in the issue of the permit. Adele
Aldermen said she will make some calls about the history.
WARD 1
William J. Bolger EAST SIDE PROGRAM
Toni Donahue Jean reported that the posters are out. The four speakers are lined
WARD2 up. Jean asked that the members bring cookies. Lori will get
Gary W. Lieder microphones and bring a basket for donations. We need to set up the
Terence W. Locke Sandborn Maps for display and bring material for handouts. Jean
WARD3 said the speakers would be Larry Nimsgern, Don Howard, Jerry Miller,
Raymond Smith and Larry Huck. Newspaper articles have been submitted and the
Dennis L. Adams program will be tape recorded. Jean said our next program (Center
WARD4 Town) will be in early fall .

Randy Patterson FACADE IMPROVEMENT GRANT FUND
Tom asked if anyone was interested in pursuing the City Council to
ask that our grant funds be established as a "Stand Alone Fund" that
would accumulate from year to year. A committee should be formed
and a letter drafted to the City Council . Donnabelle suggested that
we should talk about it at our May meeting. Jean suggested that we
�-- should extend our May meeting to accomplish this. It was agreed.

Tom reported that Phyllis told him that she feels that she must
resign from the Commission. It is due to the hard feelings because
of a recent zoning dispute in which other members of the Commisssion
had opposing views. Tom said he regrets not having discussed that
controversy at our meeting. Barb said it was not a personal issue
and that it was a zoning issue. Tom suggested that the Commisssion
make an official statement as to how we feel about the possibility
of a change in zoning effecting the status of the neighborhood which
is considered a historical area. Barb Byron composed a statement
and the members voted to present it to the City Council .
OFFICERS
oT m reported that we now will have three vacancies on our
Commission. Tom asked for volunteers for the chairman position.
Lori made a motion that we ask our vice chairman to assume the
position until someone comes forward to take the position. Carl
Fredrickson (the vice chairman) said he would be willing to fill the
position for awhile. Tom said he would inform Carl of the way to
compile an agenda for our meeting. Lori requested a member should
take over her job of recording secretary. No one volunteered. Tom
suggested that we ask the City to provide a recording secretary to
do our minutes. Carl said we should find out what it would cost.
OTHER BUSINESS
Jean was late to arrive at our meeting. She did not hear Tom's
explanation of the Landmark's cancellation at the Trade Fair. Tom
repeated the reason and Jean objected to the cancelling without
membership polling. She felt that all members should be polled
before cancellation.
